Scene 7 OrthoPhoto

Post by Wannascan » Sun Jul 30, 2017 7:21 pm

Now that I have upgraded to scene 7 my orthos export at tiny fraction of the size that they actually are. It also only says it is taking one photo while it is being created whereas before it said it was taking five. Please help what am I missing

Check the export format: .jpeg or .tiff (much larger file, but 'lossless', not compressed).
If I remember correctly, .tiff and .png were the only orthophoto export option in Scene 6. Scene 7 has just added .jpeg and .bmp.

From the Release Notes:https://knowledge.faro.com/Software/FAR ... _for_SCENE
Apps•"The Orthophoto App now supports export of DXF files and the additional image file formats PNG, JPEG and BMP. •The Forensic Wizard App is now available in the new UI.•The VR Viewer App allows watching scans in Virtual Reality with an Occulus Rift VR device."

Hi William,

When you write about the size of the ortho images do you refer to their scale, there storage size or to the part of the point cloud that is shown in them?

Which file format did you select for your ortho images? I am not quite sure what your comment about the number of photos refers to. With "before" do you mean when using the pervious version?

Have you contacted FARO support? My colleagues there should be able to help you.

Is it me, or has the transparency in the TIFFs been removed in Scene 7? I used to be able to use layers to fix shadows in point clouds but now the white space in tiffs appear opaque.

Hi Chris,
No, I think it is not your fault. I think the layers were removed from the TiFF files the Ortho Photo Generator creates.
I am sorry for the inconvinience this change in SCENE 7.0 is causing you.
I will check with the development team, if there is a way to get the image background transparent for exported TiFF files.

Thank you Jana, I appreciate your efforts! This is a common workflow for me as we use point clouds often as the final deliverable for ornate building elevations. I have found a work around by deleting all white areas in Photoshop but this is an extra step and introduces some other problems.

I am refering to the scale. It used to come in at full scale and now the whole photo is less than an inch. In the previous version it said it was taking 5 sublayers of the photo while it was creating. Now it just says it is creating a photo.

I spoke to customer support and they say it is a bug and had me downgrade to the last version of scene.

Hi Chris,
I spoke with the developer team. We put the issue on our task list.
I hope we can spare you the time consuming workaround soon.

Hi William,
Thanks for clarification. It is correct that with the new version the Ortho Photo Generator creates TIF files with just one layer. The change was done since we now provide a DXF export for users who want to create ortho phots as base for modelling in the familiar CAD system and many CAD do not support multiple layer TIF.

I've reported the scale issue to the developer team. We will try to reproduce it. It may be helpful to see/know the settings you made in the Ortho Photo dialog.

I am sorry for the inconvinience.
Kind Regards

I have not been able to get the DXF to come into AutoCAD 17 is there something I am missing?
