MSI GT62VR Laptop and Scene
I am planning on getting a laptop for using Scene and the usual suspects. Also I need one to set up my VR/Vive for presentations and unfortunately my trusty Macbook is out of the picture for this. Lugging around the workstation doesn't sound too appealing as well .
I came across this one and was wondering if there are any of you who have already used that machine (or it's predecessor)? I plan on upping up the RAM to 64MB.
Thats the laptop: https://msi.com/Laptop/GT62VR-6RE-Domin ... o-overview
Any insights highly appreciated!
Best,
Steffen

Check out the custom builds from Scan - https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/custom/gaming/laptop
I have had mine over a year and its handled some fairly large point clouds in Cyclone, Scene runs as well as it can do and never any issues editing photos etc.
Only regret is getting a 1tb and 1tb normal drive - wish i got 2x 2tb SSD!

You'll rarely go wrong with MSI notebooks.
We own 17 of them and other than one of them having a problem with the on switch, they have been super reliable.

Re: MSI GT62VR Laptop and Scene
We run 2 (soon to be adding 3) of the GT72VR-6RE's, they handle pretty much anything we throw at them. I tried the 62 last week before buying the second 72, could have been that specific laptop but I noticed about 10-20% decrease in efficiency running almost identical files (Exporting 130-135gb Cyclone files) and at the end of the day I like the 17" screen quite alot more.
Hope this helps!

Re: MSI GT62VR Laptop and Scene
Make sure to uninstall "Nahimic", a software (audio enhancement) that comes with MSI laptops. It is known to cause trouble with several 3D applications and also with SCENE. The tool hooks into your graphics driver and tries to do very bad things...

Yes, I always forget to mention that.flohrd wrote:Make sure to uninstall "Nahimic", a software (audio enhancement) that comes with MSI laptops. It is known to cause trouble with several 3D applications and also with SCENE. The tool hooks into your graphics driver and tries to do very bad things...
Daniel and his team spent many hours assisting NYPD with an issue on their notebooks that turned out to be Nahimic.
