Can anyone give me some pointers/guide to creating sections in cyclone?
I've had a bit of a fiddle with it, but not been able to get any satisfactory results. So im not sure if im doing something stupid!
I was trying to create vertical sections through a building, and also through a cliff face.
Although i would also like to be able to use it to greate ground profiles.

Here is a few pointers for you.
Cyclone works on Tin meshes for its sections so you need to make sure that the Building or ciff face's co-ordinate systems matches this. As it uses tin meshes you will not be able to get sections of objects that return on themselves or have perfectly straight faces like the returns on windows.
For cliff faces I would create a copy of the data in a new modelspace. Just in case you need to decimate it.
Create a line half up the clif making sure its level (or perpendicular to the direction of the sections needed).
Next run the alignment tool by converting the line to an alignmet, then create you sections.
If you are needing sections that go around the corners you will need to consider using a meshing package. there has been loads of threads covering that so don't need to list them.
I will try to put up a couple of screen shots highlighting the major steps.

I don't know if you have access to the Cyclone II Topo module, but if you do, I found it to be much more useful for cross sections of buildings and other objects that don't mesh well. You have to alter the UCS to make the software think it is ground data, but you are able to trace point cloud data rather quickly at user defined intervals and the vertical exaggeration tool is also handy.

Some people use an image file...
Create a vertical slice using 'set slice from picks' tool and set the slice thickness to whatever you desire. Then set the offset amount to 1m for example.
When you then use the step forward/step back tool you will be jumping to view slices at 1m intervals.
Once in side view, simply export as an ortho image (ensure you are in ortho-projection mode) and you will have an image and a twf file with orientation, position and scale info to drop into CAD should you so wish... you can draw over this or plot it out directly...
