link says in part:
" Flash Technology is a revolution in how large-volume projects will be scanned in the years ahead.

Once enabled, Hybrid Reality Capture provides faster scans of less than 30 seconds. Thanks to proprietary smart upscaling algorithms, the output includes all collected images and points captured by a Ricoh Theta Z1 360° camera and Focus Premium Laser Scanner and results in full-color scans that look more crisp than the same resolution scans with traditional methods. And because both the static scans and panoramic images are taken so fast users can scan large areas in much less time.

Thanks to Flash, there is no longer the need to sacrifice speed for accuracy and accuracy for speed
."

anyone from FARO want to comment on how the scanning part of it is accomplished so much faster and what are the accuracies to be expected?

Something like
1. expect 3x quality/accuracy and
2. we do full dome at 1/32 resolution and interpolate the rest using some sort of AI

I have no idea how FARO does this, but wanted some sort of concrete answer to two (2) question.
The above is just an example of giving answers to the two questions.
It's so the answers are not of the form:
"1. better quality because the visualizations are better (note not mentioning what the accuracy, just the visualization)
2. what we do to improve the speed is proprietary and falling back on the old CIA/MI6/KBG's "we can not tell you unless we kill you first .

I believe that scan image visualizations will be beautiful :D But more interesting is the quality of the data and its sharpness.

Another thing is whether it has already started to be distributed or it will be sometime this year?

Getting sample data of 1/4 resolution of the scan (44.4mil points) would be interesting. Maybe there are people on the forum who have already tried this system?

Has anyone trialled this so far?

It seems a large part of the 'flash' speed is a particular scan profile - where the quality is 2x, all sensors are off (including inclinometer), and the panocam is used for colour instead of the internal camera.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but can we not just set this profile ourselves without some kind of "subscription"?

We bought a panocam for our FARO premium last year and were hoping to speed up our colour capture process. Instead we got very low quality imagery that was consistently misaligned with the 3D data.

My hope for this "hybrid reality capture" / "flash" scanning was that FARO had greatly improved the alignment of panocam images, as well as actually using the full quality of the imagery produced by the Z1.

"1/4 2x scan with 10 sec. pan-axis rotation"

What does this mean? Is it the same density as a normal 1/4 scan?

"Only a rough value for inclinometer and compass is captured"

What accuracy would the inclinometer have when doing flash scans? Would scene give less power to a flash scan inclinometer when doing target based registration?

Do you absollutely need the ipad for this? Would a phone work(android or ios)?

How much does this subscription cost? (Sphere + flash)

$3500/yr for flash, I saw somewhere...

surely there will be a webinar with a Q&A

maybe we'll see a FAQ ...or would that make too much sense(but not enough cents  )

Next question is what is power consumed (?.????wHrs per minute?) by:
* letting mirror spin when not doing anything, and
* spinning up from stopped (assuming spinning downdoes not consume "ANY" power.

I can see if you scan, move a short distance, scan again and so on
that letting the mirror spin constantly make some sense relative to

Agreed Marius, getting sample data will give us a far better appreciation of what is actually happening here. I think the hybrid approach of combining laser range finding data with well aligned and corrected photography is definitely the way forward, which I think is pretty much what NavVis are currently doing through post processing. Interesting stuff...
