Edit: No wait, there is a whole new scanner? HDR? Upgrade to old units possible?

Coco Faro isn't spelled with a Z its spelled with a $. So I am guessing the upgrade might not fly.

Re: New FARO Focus inc HDR and SCENE 6.0 software released
When they released the "Multi Sensor" 120s, which added GPS etc, there was an upgrade path and that required hardware changes. Hopefully, there will be an upgrade option for HDR too since that should mainly just require new firmware to do bracketing.
I remember hearing through the grapevine that HDR was going to require rewriting the entire color management stack so I suspect this was a pretty major feat for the engineers to get out the door. Congrats to everyone who worked hard to get it done.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it was implemented. It would be great if someone uploaded an HDR scan that we could play with.

Jed, beat me to it
They have offered sensor upgrades in the past, but I am not sure it is as simple as changing out the CMOS sensor this time. To be honest it would not be a necessary upgrade for our units as we don't need color all the time, and when we do we opp for the fastest color capture sequence possible. For others (like the Forensics group) I am sure it is a much more desired ability.
If this new camera is 5 times faster and can capture decent images in the dark, then count me in.

Hello all.
There is an upgrade path for existing Focus3D X units which have been build after a certain point in time.
For feasibility, detail and cost, please refer to your local FARO representative.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: New FARO Focus inc HDR and SCENE 6.0 software released
Customers have been asking for a means of capturing a second set of images on the scanner for many years now (without the need to take a low resolution scan). With the addition of HDR, this would seem quite logical as it can add value as a panoramic image capture device and allows for quick clean up of images where people or cars have walked in front of the scanner. Has this feature finally been implemented?

Eugene,
no this hasn't been implemented.
What can be done now is to capture a scan in comparatively low resolution and to create scan point clouds with closed surfaces. The SPCs will then have the details of the color photographs. This can save scanning time out in the field.

Re: New FARO Focus inc HDR and SCENE 6.0 software released
I think you missed my point. I like what HDR has to offer, but it is now more imperative to have a way to merge and fix HDR images to remove cars and people since the user doesn't have control when to fire the camera. If you put an iStar camera on your scanner, you can wait until somebody walks by or traffic clears up before you take the shot, but this is not an option.
I have spent a lot of manual hours cleaning scans individually to get rid of clean scan data with the wrong photos. As in a similar thread...customers have been asking for this feature for quite some time and this would have been the ideal opportunity to add value with some small software tweaks (since you were working on imaging anyway).
I don't want to take away from the HDR benefits. They are great and will offer value, but if I can't control the industrial building, workers, traffic...etc., then my only choice is to manually clean the scans...which takes time, which costs money, which does not add value to a business.
