Re: To renew Pointools or not?
I have used Pointools for some time now and have never been disappointed with its abilities, sure the 64 bit version will bring the benefits that the old 64 bit version offered and some new tools as well but even the 32 bit version was far better than most software platforms of the same type. As for the animation post way back in this thread, I have run animations out of pointools using a 5 billion strong point cloud (a .pod file of around 80GB) and have not had any problems to difficult to easily overcome. My faith is strong with what the guys have created and I will definitely not hesitate to use pointools in the future and recommend it to others.

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
We also like Pointools, especially to generate HD pictures (ortho or perspective) and videos.
But now, we switched on Pointcab when it comes to make drawings. The import of our fls scans is really faster and we create orthopictures very easily.
When it comes to shape analysis, we use Cloud Compare more and more frequently.
One problem with Pointools is the color ramp: you can't define a number of colors, and the scale only shows centimeters and not millimeters.
With CC, you can set 8,16,32 etc.. colors on your scale and have a clearer view. The scale can be changed too. It's totally free and regularly updated.
With Pointools, some bugs are still remaining: orthopictures have a wrong scale with ViewPro 64, and we also can't save the pictures in our project directory. We have to save them in the "My Pictures" directory, and to rescale the picture in a photo software.
When you add some texts and coordinates, they are often cut in the pictures.
You can't resize your logo or the text size in the pictures, and when you save a project, the snapshots options aren't stored etc....
These issues have been known since we bought it in 2011.

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
Dan,
I noticed the beta1 is no longer available on my Bentley Select site. Is it pulled for a reason, or are you coming out with a new beta release?
Thanks, Scott K.

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
Tx for the heads up - we were supposed to fix the labeling issue... but the fix is a bit drastic
Seriously, it should be back soon.

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
Hey guys,
Can anyone post a link to the 64bit installer?
We're not Bentley users so have no access to the select server to download the 64bit beta.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
Not sure it would do you any good since it still needs a license to run - it doesn't seem to be a public beta (hence why it's only for SELECT subscribers). Bentley folks might be able to shed more light on the licensing aspect though.christopherbyrne18 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: To renew Pointools or not?
Hi,
indeed the beta access is limited to Bentley SELECT users.
30 Days eval demo version will be made available after the release as we did for the the 32 bit version.

Is the beta posted again on the Bentley site? I cannot find it when I search for Pointools in the downloads section. I am a SELECT subscriber.

Hi Nick,
