I wanted to test a site with a gls-2000 assuming it could traverse automaticaly.
Now i hear froom the dealer thet it's necessary to measure the points before where you want to place the scanner. I always assumed that you give a position for the first point and a backsight and that the instrument itself calculates the foresight where a prism is placed.
Can anyone confirm which method is to be used? If all the station points have to be known before measuring it is pretty useless (personal opinion).

The GLS2000 can backsight / foresight, and not sure if the latest firmware allows it to do resections, will try and find out...landmeterbeuckx wrote:I wanted to test a site with a gls-2000 assuming it could traverse automaticaly.

Re: Traversing with gls-2000
Jason,
So you can start with 2 points, traverse say 20 stations. Measure a few stations with total station for gnss coordinates, do an adjustement with surveying software and calculate the pointcloud.
The measured prisms can be extracted out of the scans with x, y and z values? This is absolutely necesarry in my search for a (possible) new scanner.

Yes, I will PM you my colleague`s details. He has worked with the GLS2000 in depth...landmeterbeuckx wrote:The measured prisms can be extracted out of the scans with x, y and z values? This is absolutely necesarry in my search for a (possible) new scanner.

Re: Traversing with gls-2000
The prisms need to be measured on site using the scanner as back sight or fore sight observations. It is NOT possible to extract the prisms (prisms aren't scanned, they are measured) from software back in the office.landmeterbeuckx wrote:

Disclaimer: I no longer work for Topcon and I also have seen that new software was recently released for all their mass data products, so functionality may have changed.

Re: Traversing with gls-2000
Whilst Magnet Collage software is fantastic, you still need to measure the prisms whilst carrying out the scans. You can register by tie points, this is effectively the same as resection. It does take longer though.
