Topcon GLS-1000

Post by jf8s »

Good evening,

We have a Topcon GLS-1000 that was sold to us at the end of 2017 as brand new.

Recently someone told us that the basic software for the Topcon GLS-1000 might be obsolete, however I can't find any information about this.

Can anyone confirm if they know this is the case?

If so how long has it been obsolete for?

I can confirm that the Topcon GLS-1000 is now considered a legacy product and is no longer supported.

Is the software you are using still working or has it stopped?

It may be time for you to look at updating to a newer system, plenty of options from different manufacturers and you can also get 2nd hand laser scanners quite easily.

Once you can get a LAS, LAZ, E57 or PTS file from your existing software there are plenty of other software packages you can use for point cloud processing depending on your requirements. Point cloud processing software has advanced significantly over the last four years since your purchase and continues to do so. A good starting point might be to look at CloudCompare, which comes in at that wonderful price of free. If you let us know what type of work you're carrying out with your scanner, we can make other recommendations.
