Good morning everyone,
I am in need of a software for laydown planning. Something simple that someone could pump in some numbers for sizes of containers, or equipment, load up a point cloud and start moving stuff around.
Does anyone have a recommendation something very simple I could get in the hands of my customer for this type of task?

For this task I would use Rhino + Veesus Arena plugin.
Point cloud handling is very easy and powerful, and creating volumes and moving things around in Rhino is immediate. So easy that I'm able to do it..
If you want to up the ante the arena plugin has a pro version that calculates interference too.
Both Rhino and Arena are so powerful that for such a trivial task they might look an overkill solution, but the workflow is so easy that they are perfect in this case too.

Thanks @max72, I'll take a look at Rhino and Veesus.

Hi Samm,
Our Prevu3D product would be a great fit for you! We offer an interactive application from your scan data to cut and create assets, import 3D CAD files to place and move around, as well at to virtually walk through afterwards.
Cut tool - https://youtu.be/RqTiP5OYyxs
Import objects - https://youtu.be/JVnMbZqEXl8
Happy to connect if you are interested to find out more.

Hi Sam, we have a cloud-based software platform that allows you to visualize and manage multiple Point Clouds and BIM models in a friendly interactive platform.SCarbo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 3:12 pm Good morning everyone,

We use CmBuilder and/or this Revit plugin

Fuzor seems to do a great job as well but it is definitely not "simple"

If you already have an object library, we use to use Infraworks, but it has several limits for site logistic planning

Depending on your point cloud provider - you could get the cloud as an LGS file.
TruView viewer (free) allows you to import IFC.
Beyond the Publisher license (for the LGS) - would be free, albeit perhaps not the slickest interface in terms of inserting models etc, but might suffice for your needs.

Thank you everyone, these are all great. I am going to continue to look into them. We do have LGS files from our Leica scanners. I am more so looking for the ability to allow a general user to pump in some dimensions and move the item around in the point clouds.
