Advice on back pack for P40
Hi All,
looking for a bit of advice here. We are scanning an area which requires us to take the scanner up a set of ladders, I have seen previous threads but the back packs seem a little on the large side. There is a metal rung around the ladder so one the size of the typical scanner box for example would be too large.
Any help would be much appreciated.

any reason not to use a faro for this one?
otherwise, we have used hiking pack for out old scanstation 2 years back and it worked fine.

Re: Advice on back pack for P40
We have used the P40 for the rest of the project and the client has asked for additional data which requires scans to be carried out on a higher level.
Yeah that was our back up plan which seems the best thing to do.
Cheers.

i would use a faro, so long as the range isn't too far off and the surface materials are okay. Your taking some risk (human and machine) with the bigger/pricey p40. sure it will work, but probably unneeded risk.
With your p40 data already there, you can just pop in the faro data easily via cyclone.

Thanks that's us all sorted now.
In hindsight it would've made sense to hire a Faro but due to client demands of a quick turnaround we managed to get a good quality rucksack and pad it out.

Re: Advice on back pack for P40
Callum,
I use one of these Leica backpacks. https://www.sccssurvey.co.uk/leica-gvp7 ... ystem.html
The only problem is that you have to use the small laser scanning box like this https://www.sccssurvey.co.uk/leica-gvp7 ... t-box.html
The benefit of this bag it is compatible with nearly all Leica cases and is very comfortable. Mind you, i haven't climbed many ladders with it on.
Regards,
David

Re: Advice on back pack for P40
Good solution, but £865 just to put it on your back is a bit pricey! Think i'd rather make one from a padded rucksack or modify an existing/older survey case which has shoulder straps.DaveWebb wrote:Callum,

Re: Advice on back pack for P40
I wish I would have known about the smaller case when I purchased my system. Looks a lot easier to lug around the job site than the standard case and would be easier to fit in the truck.
As for getting the P40 up the ladder, we just sling the case up/down when we need to get our C10 up scaffolding or gangways. That muck weight on you back while climbing a ladder does not seem that safe.

Re: Advice on back pack for P40
Dave, the Leica back packs for use with the smaller cases look good but more for total stations. Thanks for that it could come in uselful for future projects.
John, that was one of the suggestions at the time but unfortantley the controllers of work on site would not allow us to hoist the scanner box up around live plant. The weight wasn't really an issued in all honesty but this has been a good learning curve for us.
Thanks for the help.
