Hello/ Cloud Reg Max

Post by RMF »

Hi everyone,

I have been using the forum for a while and have been finding it really useful, so thank you. Our company currently uses a Leica C10 on a variety of projects and within the scanning department our little motto is ' If she aint turnin, we aint earning'.

I was wondering if anyone could explain the following cloud constraints report warning.

Cloud Alignment Warning(s)
The following cloud constraint alignments were halted by the Cloud Reg Max
Iterations limit:
Cloud Constraint [1STN: SW-001 (Leveled) : Station-004: SW-010 (Leveled)]
Cloud Constraint [2STN: SW-002 (Leveled) : Station-003: SW-009 (Leveled)]We recommend you repeat "Optimize Cloud Alignment" for these constraints.

After visually inspecting the registered point cloud everything seems to be ok. Is the warning basically saying that it is not statistically sure of a positive overlap between the scans highlighted.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Assuming you are using Cyclone, you can highlight the constraint in the Constraint List tab and try going into Cloud Constraint>Edit Parameters and bumping the Subsampling Percentage up to something like 50% or 70% to see if it'll lock in better.

I AGREE ABOUT SUBSAMPLING %, I KEEP MINE AROUND 85% FOR CLOUD TO CLOUD CONSTRAINTS. ALSO CHECK YOUR MAX ITERATIONS, IT MAY BE SET LOW. I MAX MINE OUT, IT TAKES A TINY BIT LONGER BUT RARELY GETS THAT MESSAGE. ALSO LOOK AT THE NUMERICAL RESULTS FROM THE CONSTRAINT AND SEE HOW MANY POINTS IT ACTUALLY MATCHED. LASTLY IF USING THE VISUAL ALIGNMENT TOOL, MAKE SURE YOU START AS CLOSELY ALIGNED AS POSSIBLE AND LOWER YOUR SEARCH DISTANCE FOR MATCHES, SEEMS TO SPEED IT UP SIGNIFICANTLY.

Might be worth getting in your local rep or technical specialist to move you to the next level of understanding of C2C. There is a huge amount you can do to help either the quality or the time taken to do a good C2C
