RIEGL VZ-1000 stolen
Hi all,
One of our customers in the UK has unfortunately had their VZ-1000 scanner stolen from their van whilst on site.
Please be aware, and report any sightings to us on [email protected], or +44 1949 838004.
Serial number: S9998584
We are hopeful that the instrument will be recovered promptly, and we'd appreciate your diligence in looking out for it on the black market...
Cheers,
Joe

We think it was stolen from a locked van inside a secure site in the South-East of England.

Re: RIEGL VZ-1000 stolen
It's a shame to invest a VZ1000 without geolocation tools , Riegl must integrate gps in the hardware to locate the instrument as soon as possible like what we have in our smartphone.

That's an interesting idea, Yassin. The scanner already has an integrated GPS receiver, and I suppose that adding a GPRS radio wouldn't be too difficult, but it does raise an issue of privacy!

Cool idea.Yassin_VZ400 wrote:It's a shame to invest a VZ1000 without geolocation tools , Riegl must integrate gps in the hardware to locate the instrument as soon as possible like what we have in our smartphone.
But how are you going to communicate the location? You would need cell service, and that would be expensive. Right?

hi guys,
There is an option in GPS called LBS (location based services ). it can be activated in distance without any problem even if the scanner is switch off.
hereby an example in video

Re: RIEGL VZ-1000 stolen
Most scanners have got WiFi builit into them, so why not have the device send it's location to the manufacturer's or owner's server whenever it is connected to the internet? Simple password protected setting on the scanner. It would sure be a massive game changer should any of this kit be stolen and make the insurance of the equipment much cheaper!
