I wonder how they sell them on?

Sorry to hear too.

If you have not already, please report serial number to Leica Geosystems where it is added to our global database. If it is sent for service or found or attempted to be registered online, then Leica Geosystems are notified and can advise the rightful owner.

You can email me the serial number at [email protected] to add to this database.

If the security PIN code (available since 2004) was enabled it can highlight the pointlessness of repeating the crime. Similar to how we protect our mobile phones.

This coming Tuesday and Wednesday, Leica Geosystems will be showing more security solutions at Geo Business in London: https://www.geobusinessshow.com/exhibit ... ystems-uk/ so attending is recommended.

It's happened again!

This time on a different stretch of highway, but fortunately we were using a clamp, so the instrument couldn't be separated from the tripod. We also had a chain - which was tied on to a survey box (no lamp post near by). Our surveyor had deactivated the alarm as lorries passing kept setting it off. The would be thief tried to make off with the equipment anyway, but our surveyor saw him and gave chase. The equipment was too heavy for the scoundrel, who put it down and scarpered.

As an added note to Survey Firms out there - check the wording on your insurance policies! Ours are refusing to pay out on our previous case because they say there was "no threat of violence"

Seems like this happens often in the UK. I too, wonder how they try to sell them. Can't even send them in for repair.
