Mobile Scanning with a Faro X330
Can mobile scanning be done with a Faro X330? How far off are we before mobile scanning is applicable indoors?
From my understanding the main issue here would be a lack of an accurate gps signal to correlate with the IMU data to get the whole process running smoothly and keep the data accurate enough. That comes from a pretty rudimentary understanding of mobile scanning however.
Thanks everybody, Happy holidays

Hi Aaron.
Yes, you may use a Focus3D scanner for mobile mapping. There are several soltutions on the market which use those scanners as sensors.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Hi Aaron.
I am sure my memory is complete but you might start with:
- Fagerman Technologies, USA
- Sabre, UK
- Siteco Informatica, Italy
Maybe the other users here have even more contacts in mind...
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: Mobile Scanning with a Faro X330
Depending on how large your indoor area is this may be worth a look:

Of course it is not perfect and GPS will be pointless in most buildings - but the principle of mounting scanners to small vehicles is very promising.

Hi There,
Have you considered the ZEB1 handheld scanner? This is the perfect tool for indoor mobile scanning. The ZEB1 scans at the speed that you can walk around a building, requires no GPS and registration of data is completely automated. Please visit the Geoslam website (www.geoslam.com) for more information or inbox me and I can provide you with sample data and the details of your nearest distributor.

Re: Mobile Scanning with a Faro X330
Hello.
Don´t you, too, find it interesting how predictably posts with very specific questions are hijacked here?
I am pretty sure that I would not find an answer ala "Did you ever consider buying our brand new kitchen machine?" very helpful if I had asked the shop assistant where I could find a new pair of sissors.
But maybe that´s only me...
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: Mobile Scanning with a Faro X330
Oliver you've asked about scissors, please visit scissor-review-database-allinone-wafflesrule.com for all your scissor review needs. It will not help you buy a pair of scissors in any way, but I get about 50 clicks every time I post here so that helps.
So no you're not the only one.
Back on topic, Aaron did you ever see that Leica backpack scanner prototype linked on here a bit ago? To me it looks like one of the most ridiculous things ever, so it will probably become the norm in a few years.
