very interasting article. how about Trimble GX or Leica scanstation. is there possibility to mount them on vehical and take the that kind of measurments? What software would deal with such type of data? I gues the positioning issue (gps) would be added in postprocess mode to pointcloud.

"Comparing the on-line generated DTM with first order tachymeter measurements proved that accuracies were achieved of better than 8mm (1 sigma)."

8.3 km/h - I almost fainted when I saw 80/hr. That would be something! I have heard the HDS6000 will work in kinematic mode, but have never really heard about how to set it up. Has anybody used it in this manner?
