At last Autodesk are making scanning bots to go with ReCap
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Re: I want one-seen at AU
I was at AU and saw the Recaprobot.
I covered it very briefly in my blog post here if you didn't catch it a while ago.
https://www.sparpointgroup.com/blogPost.aspx?id=8352
From the conversation I had, it was a proof of concept as much as anything. It grabbed the attention and imagination of people there, complete with it's own Twitter feed. I'm sure Elmbo could correct me if i am wrong
The more interesting and potential game changer was in the field registration using ReCap Pro on a tablet (or laptop) hooked directly to a Focus. This wasn't sitting down afterward you've done a few scans and importing/registering them. It was near real time registration. #fitforpurpose
But given how predictably closed minded the view of something new has been in another recent thread, I shall not dwell on this too much.

Now what thread would that be?
It's a cool robot and as stated by most that have used it, ReCap seems to be better for small registrations, as it stands

I'll save you the hunt...it was this one

If you know some of the people behind ReCap, then you know they need real feedback about their software, which customers are finding it useful, improvements and feature requests. On its own, ReCap is quite an accomplishment and there are many positive things to say. But let's face it, this is relatively new and there is plenty of room to grow, especially in the area of registration.

Re: I want one-seen at AU
Maybe it's me (and it probably is) but for some reason, I cringe at the idea of targetless registration. It sounds ideal but in my head and after many years of cursing and long nights fixing and tweaking registrations, too many things can go wrong. They can and do go wrong with an on board compensator and control located with a total station so I can only imagine targetless. I have had jobs with 1000+ setups and not had registration issues and then I have had jobs with 20 setups and had a disastrous time of registration due to lack of experience and knowledge by the scanner operator. In the end it seems like it could be a decent piece of software but if changes are made listening to the masses of what changes should be made would only benefit all.
