What about the associated scanner software ?
There is no point having a "cutting-edge" scanner if the processing software is lacking in decent workflow features.
and....all point cloud software should support a 3D connexion mouse .

I think this topic details perfectly how different we all are
There are never only going to be three top features. And we are never going to agree on the best software workflows.

If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

laserscanners are done boys.... the industry will not be able to sell another 100,000 before the tech is completely meaningless....
for christ sake Canon just release a 50MP DSLR!
My Nikon D810 is my goto for detail reading not our laserscanners anymore and thats 36MP.
You cant touch that pixel density (aka precision) with any laserscanner... its over... done. finished. pack up guys... at least I bought the laserscanner with the coolest looking case which will age nicely.
so really we need a top feature of: how many of you want NO SCANNER as a top feature?
think im crazy?
how many of you find an iphone shot of a page of text as readable as a flat-bed scanned doc?

Regardless of how people capture the data, it's the type of data produced which will nearly always be the same: in our case PointClouds - big, small whatever - dumb points! If you look at the 3d Scanning group on Facebook - they're all mostly talking about photo processing into AgiSoft - but even though I agree with some of your statements, there is no major technological advancement coming soon to the processing of images that will allow for accuracy at the kind of range we work with here (mostly): if I am wrong, well, let me see the tech!hypsometric wrote:laserscanners are done boys.... the industry will not be able to sell another 100,000 before the tech is completely meaningless....

I am just annoyed I missed the poll... for me it's about Dual-Axis Compensation, Clean data throughout the measurement range of the unit being used, and 'ease of use within the whole solution'.
At Leica Geosystems we talk about 'FBV' - features, benefits and values. If all you have is a list of features - it's pretty bloody useless. How will this benefit you and will it save you time, money OR both? Those are the questions you need answering!

Speaking of imagery....pburrows145 wrote:there is no major technological advancement coming soon to the processing of images that will allow for accuracy at the kind of range we work with here
We trialed a P-40 the other day, the images look like 1950s magazine covers.
The "Colour Capture / HDR" aspect is very important for us.

I also had a demo of the P40 - when the white balance was set up correctly the images were very good. It was only when it was not set up that you got that 1950's look.mike annear wrote:Speaking of imagery....pburrows145 wrote:there is no major technological advancement coming soon to the processing of images that will allow for accuracy at the kind of range we work with here
