Looking to gather a list of online point cloud viewer tools/methods and poll the advantages and disadvantages of each including pricepoint/barrier to entry, functionality, etc.

Please let me know what i have missed.

Potree
Cesium

BloomCE
Jetstream/Truview
Scene Webshare

Hi Tony.
You might like to take a look at www.3dusernet.com. We are independent of any software or hardware supplier and our platform has an optimised viewer for point clouds and models on any device, mobile or other, a full suite of tools for measurements, notes and her tasks, and easy ways to share with different people. We''ve a 3 month free licence helping people with remote working at this time.
We are also integrating into other data portals and doing bespoke branded versions of the platform for third parties.

I hope you find this useful

With an online point cloud (and hopefully overall file) viewer, collaboration with stakeholders and teams is much easier.

Steve and Marek

You guys did a great job with the VLX. It looks like all you need is a bottle of Bud and an iPad.

Hi Tony,

Glad you made this post here as we've been struggling with finding a cloud-based point cloud collaboration solution for over a year.

In our opinion the best is: FARO Scene WebShare

We are not FARO users. But, in going through their demos, FARO has absolutely nailed it with a simple, intuitive presentation of data that's easily navigable by both novices and engineers. Orthographic slices and intuitive navigation (switching between 360° photos and in-cloud) is all done by their brilliant UI/UX designers. The only problem (for us) being WebShare is a closed system and only available to FARO Scene subscribers. While we're using Leica equipment with Cyclone R360 (and we love Leica) but TruView is not a viable solution for our clients.

To really give our architect and interior design clients what they need, we've narrowed down these "must have" requirements. To date, no one solution hits all of them:

1. Compatibility with either Leica or "source agnostic" files (E57, PTS, etc)
2. Navigation via 360° photos
3. Navigation via point cloud
4. Rough measurements
5. Orthographic elevations, floor plans, site plan
6. Highly intuitive user interface + navigation
7. Quick/easy sharing of the above
8. 100% browser-based (no install or download)

We've been investigating most of your list for a while and I would certainly add Pointerra. They are well suited for large industrial, mining and other huge projects and we're still exploring their demo to see if we can get it to work for our architects. Cintoo is amazing technology and their meshing really helps fill in the gaps between points for close up measurements of details. Navvis Indoor Viewer has a nice interface and navigation but we are still trying to get our demo to upload properly.

We're willing to pay anyone a few thousand dollars for the right solution but we don't know who to send it to. :?

I believe this is a large gaping hole in the market and whoever can fill it will reap the rewards. FARO is smart to keep their great solution all to themselves. We spend every day investigating alternatives and I hope your post brings about some unknown solution that hits all eight of our client's needs. Does Kaarta want to jump in? Please tell Kevin we would be his biggest cheerleader.

I started a LinkedIn discussion on the same topic with lots of input from various people https://www.linkedin.com/posts/c2astudi ... 38464-K8So

hi Corey,

We are similarly evaluating things. Out of curiosity, why does TruView not work for you?

We love Leica and desperately wish TruView had what our clients need. It would easily integrate into our Cyclone workflow and we'd gladly pay for it. However, it does not enable viewing the actual point cloud or generating orthographic floor plans, elevations, etc. The average real estate agent's Matterport has better functionality and a more intuitive interface. I wish Leica had committed to developing the TruView UI/UX like it has with Cyclone because we are really stuck at the moment.
