Workstation configuration/recommendations

Post by MikeM »

Looking for recommendations for a new/faster workstation.
Current setup: Xeon E5-1650 v4 @ 3.60GHz, 32GB Ram, 1TB SSD.

Ran into very sluggish processing and registration times using Scene. We had a bit more than 200 scans to register and the amount of time it took to do so was awful. Can someone shed some light on their hardware setup, trials and errors with different configurations, etc.? TIA.

Thanks but I was interested more in system specs, like what processor (single or dual), amount of RAM, single or dual video card, etc.

There is lots of topics addressing this issue, what I understood is that a gaming video card by Nvidia is better and cheaper than the Quadro , and if you have a quadro then set it up with a gaming profile, also an I7 is much better than Xeon, speed of the processor is more important than the number of processors, also an SSD is a must, one more thing is the RAM, the more the better. not sure if things have changed with the software (I use Scene 7.1) since a year ago
