I'm not really knowledgeable enough about GPU tech to be able to comment about any theoretical benefits for this card but it does seem like a bit of an odd duck. Personally I gave up on AMD GPUs years ago because of their crummy drivers. Maybe they've gotten better in recent years though.
Nvidia does seem to be pretty much unchallenged in the markets AMD wants to target with this kind of product so hopefully they will be able to provide them with some meaningful competition.
