Just wondered if anyone was aware that on-board registration (or at least a data set which when imported created a registration in Cyclone) has been available on the C10/P20 for a few years now. And the new FW adds Auto-resection if you have a control file uploaded too.

I like the idea of a tablet interface to check the results in the field, it will be interesting to see it in action and how they've implemented it.

Interestingly I had a free app on my iPhone a few years ago which did something similar with images, vertical walls and use of the GPS and accelerometer to produce crude floor plans. I am sure this is far more advanced, but I suspect we'll see more manufacturers using different sensors in their hardware in the future to facilitate this type of workflow.

Nice to see the whole industry moving forwards with innovative ideas and solutions.

I thought the same thing Paul - wasn't it a feature on the ScanStations as well?
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

yep the original scanstation way back when could register in real time, all survey grade scanners I think from all makers can do it, With no DAC you can't do it

Steve is right about other brands, The Topcon GLS-2000 has a DAC and produces ready registered data.

Hi everyone

Thanks for you kind comments! We are in the process of finalizing everything so we can live up to your image of us.
There are a few more details about the workflow on our website http://www.zf-laser.com/Blue-Workflow.3 ... .html?&L=1

The big difference to other solutions (please correct me if I’m wrong) is that the our workflow is not depending on targets at all. It supports them as well, and they can be found automatically on the spot, but they are not mandatory. The IMAGER 5010X will estimate its position and orientation, indoors and outdoors. This information will be used by LaserControl® Scout to automatically register the scans (cloud-to-cloud), hence you will know in the field already if the registration will work out or not. Also, by doing this, the scanner will not be blocked, so you can already setup at the next position and check your scans for completeness (Are enough points on my object?) or check the registration, while waiting for the scanner to be finished. Why not use the waiting time, instead of spending hours in the office to check the data and registration?

So far, when working with feature based registration, as opposed to targets, it was always tricky to estimate the amount of overlap I need for the registration to work. So one tends to over-scan the site, spending more time than necessary, which is expensive. With our workflow you know right in the field, if everything is ok and if you scanned enough. You can increase the distances between setups again, without risking registration problems. If the registration fails, just take a step back and do a scan in between the setups. Because of these new possibilities, people at SPAR referred to the new solution as an impressive productivity enhancement tool.

For any further info please don’t hesitate to contact me directly (c.held(at)zf-laser.com). I am excited about your feedback. Also, please come to our booth at GeoBusiness in May in London. My colleagues and myself will be happy to give you a demonstration.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi everyone.

I ask if anybody has feedback about this scan, specially outdoor option with GPS to make automatically Cloud-to-cloud register.

Thanks

I should have my X soon as well... will let you know... I am still not sold on it completely... but I can see why its very important step computationally... furthermore its always a joy to work on things with Z+F because they are small and humble enough to listen but big enough to act.

Are these more expensive than a Faro X120?

as a FARO user I can tell you that Z+F has been a very good company to deal with. The people I have dealt with here in North America have been always willing to help.
