The new 3D laser scanner Z+F IMAGER® 5010X

Post by Jason Warren »

Z+F.png
Zoller + Fröhlich presents a new 3D laser scanner at SPAR International 2015. The Z+F IMAGER® 5010X comes with a unique navigation system which works outdoors and, as an industry-first, also indoors! It will estimate the scanner position and orientation without any external targets in order to enable automatic registration. The scanner will also track the movements while carrying the device on to the next scanning position.
Combining the Z+F IMAGER® 5010X with the newly presented software Z+F LaserControl® Scout, results in a totally new laser scanning workflow. Z+F calls it the Blue Workflow. The Blue Workflow allows you to register and check your scans (completeness, etc.) already in the field – without using any targets.

Indoor Navigation system and GPS
The Z+F IMAGER® 5010X comes with a unique navigation system which works outdoors and, as an industry-first, also indoors! It will estimate the current position and orientation of the scanner to support the registration algorithm to automatically find the correct solution. The scanner will also track your movements while carrying the device on to the next setup and hence provides position estimation for the registration process.

With Z+F LaserControl® Scout and the new 3D laser scanner Z+F IMAGER® 5010X , Zoller + Fröhlich starts a laser scanning revolution with the Blue Workflow.

Drastically improved WiFi speed and range
Working with the 802.11n-standard and dual antennas, the Z+F IMAGER® 5010X has an increased working range and allows you to communicate and stream scan data quickly to the Scout tablet.

Range up to 187 metres (approx. 600 ft.)
Due to the wavelength and the approved ranging system, the devices operate within a maximum range of 187 m (approx. 600 ft.).

High-speed up to 1 million pixel/second
With a maximum measurement rate of 1,016,027 pixel/sec some laser scanners of Zoller + Fröhlich are one of the fastest in the world.

320° x 360° field-of-view
The large 320°x 360° field-of-view yields maximum coverage.

Laser class 1
Most laser scanners of Zoller + Fröhlich are classified “eye-safe“ according to laser class 1 requirements.

HDR i-Cam
The integrated camera works very well in all environments. One focus is to always provide realistic panoramas. To make the workflow as user friendly as possible, the Z+F i-Cam is fully integrated into the Z+F IMAGER® 5010X.

Stable
The new dynamic compensator ensures maximum reliability of your scans.

Very nice !!
Z&F hardware has always been very good, it is great to see some innovative workflow additions in this version.
Jason (Maptek), will you have one of these for demonstrations in Australia ?
Cheers,
Mike.

Very much would like to see a demo of the in field registration on a tablet. It's a great workflow and when you leave the site you have most of the work done!

Hmm, on-site registration, sounds interestings, and in need of lots of testing. Maybe I can get an extended trial ;-) Its great to see Z+F continuing to innovate and push the boundaries.

I'm going to reserve judgement on the new workflow until we can test it out but it certainly looks interesting, liking the idea of forcing the field staff to think about how the registration geometry and overlap will work instead of just making scans in interesting locations and relying on us in the office to somehow pull it all together.

Good to see some genuine new thinking in the industry. Hope the tablet is suitably ruggedized, which seems likely and Z+F can keep the cost to sensible levels, which seems decidedly less likely..

Wondering if these new features will force a greater use of Lasercontrol software onto us..

Richard.

im glad to see that you could upgrade a 5010c to the x model. Seems to be a trend at SPAR this year that firmware updates(p20 to p30) and possible upgrades (5010c- to 5010x) are easier to stomach than a completely new scanner. Laser control is not my favorite software suite but those new features would be worth a test drive.

We'll be ordering 1......or 2 as soon as they are available. 8-)

I can say without hesitation that Z&F hasn't let us down in the past, so there's no reason for me to believe it will happen with these machines. I'm all in just based on what I saw at SPAR.

Top notch equipment, service and staff....
