I'll be undertaking my first scanning project with a 5010x next week (a lot of previous experience with Leica Scanners). I'm excited to try Scout and Blue Workflow, it seems very advantageous. What tablet would you recommend for use in field? I'm thinking the project is going to be ~100 medium resolution scans with photos, so may be around 100GB? That would be roughly correct for the P40 I used.
Would the better Surface Go be an OK choice, or is a 128GB SSD too small? With Scout can you scan to an external SSD that is cabled to the Tablet? Such as a Samsung T5? TIA

Hi,
how many hours do you think you will use the tablet with Z+F Imager 5010X or 5016?
because microsoft surface pro hasn’t got hot swappable batteries.
i suggest you panasonic fz1 instead

Re: Tablet Recommendation for Scout
Hi
enjoy the experience its awesome!
Are you buying a table for this or do you have a surface lying around?
Just so you know ZF scan files are way smaller than other products the 5010x only has internally 64gb storage so 120gb is more than enough.
They all will work fine the scout program is very good on a i5 processor, just set the tablet on battery saver as mentioned and then in the project make sure it is set to rough alignment and no filtering and no colour generation, and just do this in the office later.
i have used the surface previously and now we are using the toughpad, mainly due to weather and on site abuse.
good luck and enjoy.

Re: Tablet Recommendation for Scout
Total project ended up being around 30GB. Had to abandon the use of the tablet because of time per setup, I think it was an issue with my local install of scout. The scanner ran very well when I began using the on board position estimator alone.
We had almost 400 50 second stations. Pictures on only three or four, and I also dialed those up to 6 minute density because they were exterior (greater distances).
I'm looking forward to getting these registered in LC and see what the noise data looks like. My experience is mostly with Leica and I've always heard good things about the noise level from Z+F hardware.
