Re: FARO Focus 3D S120 Rebooting loop problem
It looks like FARO wants these units (S120) sent back for maintenance,

do you know how much the final bill including calibration.TommyMaddox wrote:We had the same issue with our S120 earlier this year in March. It was on a job site right when we arrived, and was in Pittsburgh (We are located in SC). This was a serious issue, and also took place about a month after the warranty expired and a week after we upgraded to the X330.
I did seem to notice an unusually large number of users having the exact same issue with their S120s this year, and this year only. Not really sure what is behind it, but any attempt to reflash or reboot the unit successfully failed, as it wouldn't get past the bios at all.

Re: FARO Focus 3D S120 Rebooting loop problem
We lucked out and had already accepted the trade in terms, they allowed us to take the S120 on one last job, as the X330 arrived only 2 days prior. It cost us nothing because we did not have it repaired.
With a huge rash of identical issues popping up only in the first quarter of this year, it seems suspiciously like either poor design or intentional cause is the root issue here.

We are continuously having issues with our tx5 lately (out of warranty), but not this particular issue.
We get "1630:color acquisition failure" , "1440: scanner operation failure", "no data received from scanner..."
Have reset the firmware with no success. Seems like the self destruct timer inside is activated

Hello.
I am sorry to learn about your unpleasant experience with your FARO product!
Yet, I can ensure that any speculations about a "self destruct timer" or whatever are lacking any substance!
Whenever you are facing challenges with FARO products, I strongly recommend to search help from your local FARO customer support team.
The folks there are trained and equipped to get you up and running as quickly as possible.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: FARO Focus 3D S120 Rebooting loop problem
Hello Oliver,
I received this email from the sales department assuming that it is just a sales pitch to sell remaining X series scanners before a new model is released.
Is there a service life expectancy for these units? Is there a point where Faro will no longer provide service, parts and support for certain models? When is the release of a new series occurring?
Thank you,
Warren

Re: FARO Focus 3D S120 Rebooting loop problem
I understand that FARO needs to sell scanners to remain profitable, but my 120 still works well, so it makes sense to continue to use it until it doesn't. I didn't appreciate the FARO rep hanging up on me when I told him the same. Five years old and obsolete? Try again when the economy is better.WWilford wrote:Hello Oliver,

Re: FARO Focus 3D S120 Rebooting loop problem
Yeah we got this email too. Our S120 has been much more reliable than our newer X330 so add me to list of users with "legacy" systems that have no intention of trading them in.
I'm not sure when Faro stopped selling S120s, but the X330 wasn't released until 2013 and the X130 wasn't until 2014 so presumably there are people out there with "new" S120s that are 3-4 years old. That's not quite as short of a support window as a cell phone, but it's getting pretty close.

In the same boat with our "old" S120. Awaiting Oliver's response on how much longer FARO intends to service these units.....
