Jonathan,
I already said that, you should definitely have a 3d printer!

Eugene,

Once I complete the 3D model, and get a working prototype, I will pass along the .STL to the forum!

I am actually making this attachment a bit more elaborate, I am adding a micro solenoid, long wire, and a small hand held button to actuate the Start/ Stop button on the scanner. I am trying to keep the total cost of the attachment under $20. US

I hope to have a working prototype this weekend!

If this were the 70s, you could just wear those platform boots...think Gene Simmons from Kiss.

Now that I think of it...maybe we need a type of telescoping selfie stick and we call it the "FARO Finger!"

LOL! (seriously, I am laughing at my own joke)

I might have to steal that zip tie remote control string.. that thing seems to serve the purpose.. lol..

has anyone else had dock charger problems for the faro x130 the gray dock charger is giving me a headache..

We put the battery in the dock and immediately the first light goes blue then 2nd or 3rd up then immediately no lights.. and never charges.. seems like the dock charger is bad and the replacement is apparently like $825..ours is only 2-3 years old and barely gets any usage, so was kind of pissed that its dying or dead already.. we put the battery in the faro unit and charge directly there and its fine and its both batteries, seems to only be a problem with dock charging, we have swapped the power cords out and its not that the hang up seems to be the dock itself.. we thought it wasnt getting a good connection so we tried rubber bands but it seems more like the dock itself has lost the ability to charge a battery letting it sit for 5 mins, 4 hours over overnight still turns out to be dead battery or very low..

any ideas to fix especially the macgyver's out there like this thread

Thanks
John

Faro's chargers have always been poorly designed and built. It amazes me that they can't solve problems in an $800 charger that every cordless tool manufacturer has solved in $80 chargers.

Start by looking at the pins on the charger. Do they all extend the same distance from the charger? Do they all move freely and extend fully. If not that's probably your problem. Some people have had success using contact cleaner/lubricant on the pins so that they move more freely. Others have drilled out the holes in the plastic so that the pins have more clearance and don't bind as much. The circuit board the pins are mounted on can also come loose from the housing, preventing a good connection. The charger's rubber feet easily peel off revealing screws that will give you access to the interior of the charger in case you want to drill out the holes or need to reattach the circuit board.

If you search through the forum there have been a number of posts with photos and details on how people have solved the various issues with these chargers. I'm sure the actual electronics on them do occasionally fail but, in my experience, the type of symptoms you're describing have always been resolved by fixing the battery connection.

Thanks Jed,

I stumbled across that take it apart and hot glue it fix after I had posted earlier.. I will have to see its at a different location than I am at might just have to go get it and take home and make it work by any means necessary.. I thought it was contractor user error but more than one has now had a problem so I will have to intervene and see if its the pins.. yeah my engineer/chain of command almost lost their shit when they found out it was over $800 when everyone expects it to be $15-$60 for a basic looking charger with not much to it.. They were all for the rubber band approach or figure out something else.. approach..

Thanks
John

Not sure if this a new problem, but it's new to me: One of our base chargers is junky and we don't use, fair enough. Now we're finding that only 1 of the 2 batteries charges in the "good" base. The other battery can only be charged in the scanner itself. Limping by here with this current setup.
