Is my Faro battery dud? Failure code 1340
Hi guys
When I got back from scanning yesterday I put one of my batteries to charge and noticed that the blue light came on straight away meaning it's fully charged, which was strange.
After putting the battery in the scanner I get an error code 1340 saying that the battery is in a failure state.
Is there any way to fix this or do I bin it?
Cheers, Andrew

Re: Is my Faro battery dud? Failure code 1340
The code isn't listed anywhere. Maybe ask Faro?
but..........
I'm sure this is one where faro tells you to ship the whole unit to them, miss it for like 8 weeks and have it returned with an enormous invoice like any dogy car dealer.
Sorry i couldn't be more of a help
I would say, toss it and just buy a new one
Same happens with other batteries. If they don't charge, they're dead. A waste of time to fiddle about with it.

Try to charge it while still being in the scanner.

This is a common issue. Happens often when leaving the battery to charge for too long.
Great thing is that there is an easy fix. Put the battery in the scanner. Plug the wire onto the scanner. Start the scanner and wait till it has fully booted. Remove cable.
Tada its now fixed
Edit; oh my bad I read this to fast. Your scanner does boot. I would still try this trick since it works for another battery issue

Re: Is my Faro battery dud? Failure code 1340
all right guys
I've had the problem Leandre mentioned before but this time it doesn't fix it. I'm on the most recent firmware. I was told by someone to charge it in the scanner for 24 hours so that's what I'm trying.
Will report back 2moro with an update
Cheers, Andrew

Before getting ready to dish out another $400+ on a new battery, check your frimware on your scanner and the charging dock. I had similar issues and error and believe it or not, It was a firmware issue involving the new batteries out there that run on the new firmware (or something like that ). Also my charging dock broke causing the battery to short and stop charging (second issue)...FARO took care of the issue though...

Re: Is my Faro battery dud? Failure code 1340
Hey at least at the end of the day the S Series batteries are half the price of the old X Series ones, even less when inflation is taken into account. Quite an improvement for reducing the size and increasing the capacity.
We constantly encounter the need to 'reset' S Series batteries by charging them in the scanner. I recall FARO released a new battery version earlier this year with a very slightly higher W/H rating (maybe different cells) and likely a new BMS board that I believe remedies the reset need and is probably less finicky in general. The firmware version update is required presumably as a result of a new BMS system to communicate with.

Re: Is my Faro battery dud? Failure code 1340
Hi guys
I had 2 batteries that went bad. They both came up with an error code when I put them in the scanner.
I thought I'd tried everything, updated firmware and did various "tricks", all of which involved charging the batteries in the scanner.
Anyway, I send them back to Faro and they got both of them working again by performing a long charge (greater than 36 hours) in the powerDock.
I'm over the moon and thought I'd share in the hope that others can fix their batteries.
Cheers, Andrew

Wow, you got lucky. I've already had a less than 6 month old new battery bite the dust. That was after having to replace 3! Take good care of those charging docks. If the battery isn't aligning properly then they will fry fast.
