Repair without Faro

Post by charlesdab »

Hi there. Is there a place to get a Faro x130 repaired that doesn't involve sending it back to Faro?

I was able to get my hands onto a "totaled" unit that was being deaccesioned by a larger company. The only catch is it didn't come with Faro Asset Transfer paperwork.

Of course Faro won't service the unit without that paperwork. I wasn't sure if there were some other avenues to explore?

Or do I need to did another totaled scanner with paperwork? πŸ˜…

Not that I know of.

Its pretty easy to transfer the asset. But you need both parties to sign.

Did you manage to find a repair company? My S120 is now end of life and Faro won't touch it.

Just got the info from Faro:

Spare parts and repairs until December 31, 2023

Calibration until December 31, 2024

Then it's over.

Best Regards Andreas

When i hear these stories i'm glad i bought a Riegl. All scanners have similar components so always spare parts which they make themselves.

They still service older vz400's. They built them to last for +10 years at least.

How long should a company:

1. Manufacture parts for products that are discontinued?
2. Service units/systems that are obsolete/discontinued?
3. Store or maintain inventory of spare parts for units/systems that are obsolete/discontinued?

Each of the three above items requires an often substantial investment from the company to do, while offering minimal returns if any, while also cannibalizing new sales efforts.

Is 10 years expected serviceability life not reasonable enough here? You don't get that service level out of power tools, phones, computers, cars, appliances, and many other comparable items out there, especially systems where rapidly evolving technology is a major component.
