Intensity and inclinometer issue

Post by scankukai »

Hi,

We just received some scans that were done with a X130.

We noticed an intensity issue. One side of the scans is much darker than the other one.

We never saw scuh a difference.

Moreover, the operator told us that he noticed that the inclinometer didn't seem to react after some scans. In the inclinometer window, the bubble did not move anymore while adjusting the tripod.

We get quite high tensions in Scene (over 1cm with spheres between 2 scans that are only few meters from eachother). When we uncheck the inclinometer, things are better. But difficult to know which scan has a bad inclinometer value....

Any idea of what's going on?

I've experienced similar problems with a "locked" inclinometer bubble once, it was quite a job to get the 100+ scans alligned correctly.
I was recommended by Faro to update the firmware of my X130.
After going so no problems so far.

Hi Yan,

I observe false inclinometer readings at almost every bigger project I do. After thousands of scans I made, I can only tell it's random, but most of the time it occurs on the scans that are next to each other (3 scans in the row). There are three solutions for this problem, that I come up with:
1) Use the control points from total station while registrating scans or,
2) Turn off the inclinometer on the scans you suspect to be "wrong" (in SCENE while registrating) or,
3) Send your unit to FARO for calibration.

The first solution gives the best effect, the second is rather risky especially when you have lots of scans in the cluster.
Third solution is also good but after some time the problem comes back (in my case). I think that the source of the problem is simply poor quality of the tilt sensor. Or rather it is random quality, as we have a few Focus units and some of theme are better some are worse.

Regarding intensity issue I don't know what is causing it

Hi,

Thank you for your replies. I'll ask the operator to get in touch with the support and update the firmware.

Hi,

No, it wasn't the first scan of the day. I'd say that the intensity difference got worst during the day.

We have gotten to the point where we get the scanner temp "stabilized".
We did a test on it more than a year ago and seem to get better data
then if the first couple of scans were done at cooler temp.

Anyone else had this experience or wanting to comment :?:
