Critical Firmware Update for FARO Focus3D & Trimble TX5
Critical Firmware Update for FARO Focus3D S and Focus3D X Series and Trimble TX5 Laser Scanners Made by FARO
FARO is offering a free, critical firmware update for its laser scanners. This firmware update (Rev5.5.5.50056) addresses many of the issues and concerns that have been raised in this forum. It is applicable to the following products.
• Focus3D X 330
• Focus3D X 130
• Focus3D S 20
• Focus3D S 120
• Trimble TX5
Among the enhancements provided with the new firmware are the following:
• Enhanced scan quality by detecting and reporting low laser power
• Refined inclinometer data for scans
• Improved tolerance for slight variations in the pan axis movement speed
• Cleaner scans by preventing points outside the scan range to appear as errors
• Optimized scanner temperature tolerance in the lower critical range
FARO has created a special web page that will allow users of these products to download their firmware updates. The download includes instructions on how to load the firmware onto your scanner. Please note that this update is NOT for the X30, right Kelly?

Re: Critical Firmware Update for FARO Focus3D & Trimble TX5
Since we are in the FARO firmware section, why am I routinely seeing Linux line code (white text on a black background) when the Focus first boots up at start-up? It's been this way for at least a year, but otherwise works well, so I've ignored it... Do others also observe this?

I think they've always shown that. Also the X you see on the screen at certain times is the default (ugly) cursor for Unix/Linux X window systems [1].Scott wrote:why am I routinely seeing Linux line code (white text on a black background) when the Focus first boots up at start-up?
I would guess the scanners are pretty typical embedded Linux systems with an X11 based ui on top.

Thanks for the reply, Jed! I'll continue to ignore it. ~Sjedfrechette wrote: I think they've always shown that. Also the X you see on the screen at certain times is the default (ugly) cursor for Unix/Linux X window systems [1].

Scott, it shows the Linux terminal even after a firmware update? Ours has shown a few lines, but nothing elaborate.
BTW, Yay Linux!

I will do the latest firmware update later this week (I just did one a month ago). It's a fair amount of black screen code (some unreadable), but I guess it's FAROs way of saying hellojcoco3 wrote:Scott, it shows the Linux terminal even after a firmware update?
