Parking level orientation problem (beginner question)

Post by BrokenArm54 »

Hello everyone,

We have just acquired a BLK360 scanner and I am in charge of scanning the 4 Levels of a car park. These Levels are interconnected by two staircases, an elevator and an access ramp for cars. After scanning 3 Levels, each imported on a different sitemap in Cyclone register, I scanned the two opposite stairs to link the 3 Levels together. But I notice a rotation on the Z axis between each Level mainly important between Level 01 and Level 03. I tried to see if there was a problem of alignment between the stations of the stairs but what is not the case. Do you have any idea where the problem could come from? Thx a lot.

You are using Cyclone Register vs Register 360? If the latter-Did you do any Smart Align to layout your scans at all on a plan footprint of the parking garage? Pictures are worth a thousand words as Steve as said. We've done parking garages with our BLK360

You will likely want some control shot in with a total station so that you have a check on your data. From your description, it just sounds like a bad cloud alignment? Or maybe one of the scans imported tilted?

Goodnight all

Sorry for my late response. Here are some screenshots showing the difference between Level 3 and Level 4 of the car park. After observation, the offset becomes more and more important as one moves away from the ladder. THX Image[/img]

Looks more like an error in the registration. The walls look relatively plumb in the top down view for example.

Look for "duplicate walls" around the ramps or through the fire stairs that might point to an error in the registration between the floors.

Good morning,

I first linked the scans of Level 3 between them then I did the same thing with those of Level 4 in two different Sitmaps Then I linked the two levels 3 and 4 to the scans of the staircase . Is it possible that the error comes from there? Or should I put all the scans of Level 3, the stairs and Level 4 in a single Sitmap and then link them one after the other starting from the first scan of Level 3 and then going through the stairway and end up with level 4 scans?

your issue must comes from the staircase or shall is say error propagation see Daniel wujanz's posts about them.

You must link the 3rd, 4th floors as many times as you can for example if you have multiple staircase then link all of them, cars must go up/down somewhwere link thos as well. That way you can close the loops, so your error propagation gets smaller. But there maybe a simle registration issue as well. somewhere, you can use truslicer function see errors more easily.

never register multifloor environment in a single sitemap keep every floor on a different sitemap, then link thoise sitemaps together with all of the possible way.

here is an exemple of our parking area we had 3 staircase and 2 car ramps where the two floor was registered together.

can you show your links/sitemaps in bundle cloud without the pontcloud?

Good morning,

Thank you all very much for all this information. Badam , There is indeed a car access ramp and two staircases. The walls of one of the stairs is covered with reflective white ceramic. Is it possible that the error could come from there? I understand that the laser does not really like anything that reflects. For links between Sitemaps, I don't know if I can do it. I have been using Cyclone Register 360 for a short time and unfortunately do not have it in my hands yet. If you have any information on this subject, I would be delighted. Thanks again everyone.
