I'm no expert, but have been working on a basic checklist for mentoring purposes. Will hopefully be step-by-step, screen-by-screen some day.

i have recorded few registration/import of our own project to educate our team but they are full rolls not cutted so it can be a little bit long. But if someone has time to cut them maybe we could create a newer videos/video series from them. pm me if anybody has some resource to do the cutting part.

Wondering what any of you would recommend when it comes to training for the Cyclone Register 360BLK Edition software as well as the Cyclone Field 360 App for the Ipad?
Any courses? Online or in Person?
Most of the stuff on Youtube is quite dated.

Anything would be appreciated. Located in Canada. Eh!

Thanks.
Loads of traps in regiser360.... It is working through many scenarios... The training and YouTube will let you get something out the door on small projects... (But not always successfully) When you get into the hundreds and thousands of scans, well the story changes, and there is no suitable training or YouTube... So many variables and methodologies on larger projects.

As for Field360 app... Well I have used the BLK360 since first release, and been using Cyclone since the SS2 era, and Register360 since its release in 2017. The Field App we hardly utilize in any way, shape or form. We use it only for a few very particular circumstances. And then shut off the app and go to strictly Push Button Scanning. If you look at the majority of issues people have, it is with the App... So guess what. Just don't use the app and make your life simple.

Thank you for every tidbit of information. It can become quite frustrating at times to get the basics sorted out. I will try some scans with the one button push and see what the difference is.
Thank you :)

badam wrote: Tue Jul 20, 2021 6:13 am yep that is what we did exactly. with the blk its 1 button set the resolution to medium ldr and forget it. after that just push the button and thats all what happens in the field. you just make sure that you have enough overlap between the scans (1 corner with surrounding walls visible at least on both of the scans).

of course not optimal but for indoor scan this is good for most of the case.

if you get some experience you can use different resolutions for the different cases. (outdoor high res, indoor big room middle, indoor small rooms small res)

of course if you not use field360 then you will need to register the scans in the office. that way you will need to align the scans manually in most of the case.

import only 20-25 setup/sitemap (autocloud, smart align) so the autocloud will not try to find links unnecessary.

PS: if you have specific question then ask it maybe we could help you in your journey.
On to my journey to proceed with one button scans. I will keep you posted as to the success. :)

Always a wealth of knowledge Paul. Appreciate the time to respond with several different options. Will be posting back some feedback as for my journey.

Noob question: I thought the software made self registration prety good from what I had been told. For clarity: I am very interiors focused so scanning 50/50 in doorways and such is expected but hope to be able to do larger jobs with this scanner if necessary. I will also typically scan the outside to get a basic envelope and exterior wall thicknesses, ETC. I can see how site work would throw it off or repetitive elements on a building façade. But I hope to make scanning not require a ton of back end registration and cleanup to get to some simple scan to BIM or at least to 2D plans (mostly 2D backgrounds is all I need for my work but people always ask to bundle in and value add).

Was considering if I should buy an iPad with a big drive just for scanning. Sounds like maybe I shouldn't bother. Advice is much appreciated.

More unsolicited FYI:
Was looking here for advice on tutorials for BLK360 and Register 360, but this caught my eye. I am not assuming I will find success or the speed I need with this scanner (obviously?) but thought it would be a good starting place for me even if I only do a few smaller jobs a year with it and keep teaming with consultants for larger jobs.

If you have blk360 G1, i'd say that it is faster to do the scaning with pushbutton then register it in the office. And other thing is that office processing can take easily as much time as it takes in the office. For example cleaning, registering exporting, decimating. And other thing you need to be aware of, is the storage requirements. It is huge compared to other fields.

200-400mb/setup and you'll store it at least 2 times. One setup with the blk360 is about 3-5 min. Let say you scan a full day 80 setup bigger house, or a small office space. It will be about 24gb*3.

Yeah as Adam says, one thing you need to be aware of with REG 360 is that with a single import routine, it doesn't DELETE any collected points that are imported into the SQL DB and associated sub DB's. It isn't like other DB's that can compress and clean out interim delta datasets. In almost all routines it sets flags on points (i.e. "Cleaned" points, "Hidden C2C calculation points, etc) The term should really be "HIDE POINTS" rather than "Remove" or " Delete" this is a two edged sword because it can greatly help in the Registration process in adding back in points you want for an additional Registration link that you may have deleted for a previous one (once you are refining), but it also maintains the exact original size of the imported data or is bigger because of added limit boxes, hidden flags and other data imported (Geotags). The only way to reduce the size is limiting the actual import, by range or by NOT EXPORTING cleaned points in the publishing process and then "Re-importing" the LGS, E57 other format unified or separate E57 setups back into a new Project (For Archive purposes). The LGS format (Euclidean Tech) is quite compact 1/6 to 1/10 the size of Reg 360 db (with no decimation) and affords the ability to decimate as well as view almost unlimited size clouds- at least with 1GB bandwidth-. You can also export segments of the project by limit box or station setup after completion of Registration.
