BLK360 - Newbie - How to get started

Post by tjawed »

I just purchased my first 3d laser scanner pre owned.

I have Autodesk AEC Suite, a very powerful PC, and an Ipad Pro 256GB.

Is there a good getting started guide online that I can follow?

What software should I look to purchase or download (I hate subscriptions)?

I've heard the wifi is quite the bottleneck when doing scans, is standalone a better workflow that is then downloaded to the PC?

Sorry in advance for what must be a lot of basic questions.

Do a search in YouTube for Andy Fontana BLK. He has a series of videos starting from the most basic 'how to scan' to detailed and long videos covering creating 2D and 3D drawings and modeling. Register360 is probably going to be your best bet for registration software.

Further to Scott's comments here are the first 3 videos I point new users to

Cyclone Register360 BLK edition will be your best & most cost effective option, there are permanent and subscription options. Once you have current software, you will have access to Field360, the iPad App which is used in video 2.

With regards to data transfer to your computer I have attached a guide that gives you alternative options
Good Luck!

Sorry to hijack the tread. I too am looking at getting the BLK360. I scan predominately residential houses for As-Builts, and the Matterport isn’t cutting it. The PX-80 I picked up has so much drift that it’ll make a rectangular building curve like the letter J. It’s not usable indoors.

Does the BLK360 have much drift ? And is the scanning software smart enough to register between elevation differences?

It currently takes about 45 minutes for me on the Matterport for a 2 story 1,500 sqft with internal stairs. If there are exterior stairs forget it, I’ll need to start a new scan.
Paying an annual fee and for them to process each scan. A pain in the butt.

Probably end up getting a preowned BLK360 if the scan times can be reduced, accuracy increased, and subscriptions eliminated.

Curious about the workflow for the BLK360 now that Recap Pro Mobile has been eliminated. Is one required to subscribe to Leica's Field 360 or are you able to export the scans to other software without the yearly subscription fee?
