Cyclone - Import Registration possible bug

Post by JGlauser »

Hi all,

This is a strange, difficult to replicate issue I come up against fairly frequently. This is a Cyclone Core issue.

I work a lot with sub registrations. I'll typically register different floors of a building in sperate registrations so as better to clean and autoadd them in sensible chunks. Following this I'll add the correct link scans from stairwells or whatever from the floor above to the floor I'm currently working on so there are two registations each with a few common scans.

Most of the time, performing an "import registration" operation on the two registrations will bring both floors of the building together with a nice loop of constraints, distributing errors.

Sometimes when I do this, the registration algorithm will chug like crazy, and converge with a solution with lots of error piled into one area of the building. These scans can sometimes be minimally constrained ones that do not close loops (like a cupboard or something). Scans like this (I'm using RTC) should only ever show a 0mm error no matter what because unlevelled and minimally constrained. Changing the home scanworld will sometimes fix the issue, sometimes I'll need to change the home scanworld a few times, each time the error will bounce around somewhere else until eventually I find that magic point where the solution converges to a "correct" registration.

Im aware that freezing my floors off and linking them together as blocks will solve this issue, but I don't want to compromise my reg quality like that if I can avoid it.

I have had some odd issues similar to you and only with RTC360 data in Core.

The most recent one was a large ish farm house than i imported the reg to the court yard/ out buildings. So had 4 or 5 doors in/out the line it up with... but two of the doors it changed the z alignment and the knock on issues took hours and hours to fix. Even once it was fixed it would still on show the error in the final registration - but i could open the 2 scans that were not aligned in the final model space using the registrations visual alignment and they were fine...

I had to delete all the scans where the problems were, add them manually to the registration and align them. Problem solved but when i had a near enough perfectly scanned job, loads of closed loops and over laps it was a bit of a drag spending hours and hours fixing a problem that should not be a problem.

One other bug, not noticed it recently but when you use smart align it use to always miss the first scan.

Hi Jack,

Ive also run across this issue. As you say its a bit hit and miss, but sometimes changing the home scanworld does seem to fix it, which makes no sense at all.

Hello, the problem you describe often happens to me too. I also noticed that this problem occurs when you have 2 scanworlds very close together, almost in the same position and eliminating the connection the problem is solved, but every time I try and try without knowing where the error really is. I wanted to know if you have found any solution as leica support could not help me. sorry for my English. thank you

Has anyone solved the problem? I enclose two images of the same registration
it happens when I have many scans between P40 and RTC
the first of reg360
A_360.png
the second of core
A_CORE.PNG
support couldn't help me either

Thank you
