BLK360 Tripod

Post by fosser2 »

Hey all -

This is my first post here and it seemed this community was the most active for Leica 3D scanning. Our company recently invested in a BLK360 after months of being on a waiting list. I have been testing this scanner over the last (3) days and it has been a relatively positive experience so far. The big issue that I have is the tripod that was included with the Mission Package that we purchased. I believe the tripod is garbage, with a maximum height of 4.26ft it just doesn't seem tall enough.

I read through a few posts on the BLK360 that people had posted here and found one by user "dhirota" here. It stated
1. The tripod connection that was removed is probably the same as the $100 Leica tripod adapter without the 1/4 inch adapter. I have not removed my connection since I purchased the $100 Leica tripod adapter with the 1/4 female camera port.

2. MeFOTO camera tripod is 16 inches collapsed, has a level bubble for the head and can place a BLK360 60 inches extended above a floor.
I'm wondering which MeFOTO tripod was being talked about in this post as there is a handful of them from that brand. Has anyone else used an alternative tripod for this scanner? If so what would you recommend? As a side-note I am wondering how you can remove the tripod adapter from the stock tripod mount. I have attached a picture of it, which looks threaded on. I cannot for the life of me get it to spin off and I really don't want to use a pipe wrench or something on it.

Thanks!

I also bought the tripod proposed by Leica for the BLK360.
Truly very small and compact: I carry it in my backpack.
But it's all too low!
Now I use a Leica Tr100 tripod with x blk360 adapter.
Great! high up to 1.70 mt, light and ... cheap.
I would highly recommend it

Does anyone know of a tripod that will work inverted with the BLK360? Looking to do some scanning down some man holes with this.

Where can you get the adapter to connect BLK to a normal tripod screw?

Take out the Leica tripod's central support by loosening the main ring. Go down to a hardware store and buy a length of wooden dowel approx 27mm in diameter. Use the central support to help select the correct diameter. Attach the Leica support to the wooden dowel. I use Cloth-tape or 100mph tape, whatever you call it.insert the wooden dowel into the Leica tripod and tighten it. (more cloth tape if you need to thicken the wood). Then hang the blk360 from its central support. Most importantly remember that if you get it wrong and drop the blk360 you've just lost the price of a car.

Here is our BLK360 mounted on a NEDO tripod on a Sachtler dolly using the BLK360 tripod adapter + 1/4x20 male to 5/8X11 female adapter to connect it to the NEDO tripod 5/8X11 male.

nice, I just bought the adapter :).

The tripod is nice with the BLK, jut a little bit small. Also a little hard to use for folks without experience.

We sell a carbon fiber tripod that's quite sturdy and reaches over 6 ft tall:

http://www.laserscanning-america.com/Ca ... rimble-TX5

We also have a two way tripod that can be used for inverted scans.

http://www.laserscanning-america.com/2- ... y-adapter/

(...we also carry the NEDO tripod/tripod dolly pictured above)

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any questions!

A small note of correction, the Sachtler 7085 Cine Dolly pictured with our NEDO tripod and BLK360 is currently selling at bhphotovideo.com as compared to a NEDO Dolly selling on the above mentioned site.
