FARO Scene sloooooow slow to register 100 scans?

Postby berdindc » Fri Apr 21, 2017 5:48 pm

100 scan job that runs all night to register. Everything is in one cluster. Maxing out CPU and half of RAM.

I typically break into smaller clusters but one this job everything is in the same pot, makes no sense to break up. I'm running Scene 5.2 on a good machine. I don't see why it takes 6+ hours to register??

Any thoughts? Was unable to find something similar on the forum.

I've never registered more than 25 scans in one particular cluster and that took quite a while. Sometimes I'll look at all scans with the point color set to unique for scans, look at the overlap and determine which scans to use in clusters even if its all in the same area.

I get the 100 scan group to work, but takes forever. I've ended up clustering into 20-30 scan groups. Survey control as well.

You shouldn't use 100 scan clusters. Buuut If you are dead set on getting them all in a single cluster by the end of the project then you should:

Separate into clusters of 10-20. Top view and cloud to cloud those clusters (put your subsampling ALL the way to the right side because in an open area, this will be multiple magnitudes faster without sacrificing accuracy). Move the clusters into their correct locations relative to one another in correspondence view. (don't forget the z movement)

Then you can disband all you clusters and run a cloud to cloud on the whole thing with subsampling to the right again. Since everything is correctly positioned, it will take FAAAR less time to find the correct result for all 100.

Hope this helps

Hi,

if you like to register scans with targets and you like also use as option survey control points, please try out pointcab software register.
If you have a good placement, it should be possible between 1 and 2 hours.
