Hello,
I am trying to get the images embeded in an E57 out of Recap.
Did anyone find a way to do this?
If you open an E57 exported from Recap inside CloudCompare, no image is found either.
(to export pictures in an E57 from Cyclone, you have to export it at th Scanworld level, and not from the modelspace view)
Thanks!
Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?

You need to have ReCap Pro.Jennifer L. wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:53 am Hello,

Then when exporting to e57 there is a question if you'd like to export the complete point cloud without changes, or with the changes.
In your case you want to export without changes (I think it is the right button in the ReCap Export window).
Then ReCap creates an E57 with images.
If you don't have ReCap Pro and it is only for this one project You could download the PointCab eval version, import the rcp point cloud and use the point cloud export with the option separate scans, then you'll get one e57 file for each scan position.
If there are coming a lot of rcp point cloud projects, I'd recommend to get ReCap Pro.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
That's what I am doing. I have Recap Pro, and when I export my point cloud I choose "complete: includes per-scan info (no edits)".
But this E57 file does not include the images. The points are coloured but the images are not included in the file. I guess Recap is just not capable of doing it.

ended up here from google,
apparently Recap doesn't write the images into header, like other tools:

still searching for alternative ways to read that panorama image..

There's free E57 tools to strip the XML container portion out of the E57 file. Also good information on the E57 format and specs in general:
Light pleasure reading for those cozy Scandinavian winter nights: https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... a_exchange
Downloadable resources and sample data, some of which contain accessible imagery: http://www.libe57.org/
You don't need to be looking for a platform to read the images in the E57 file if there aren't any to begin with, you need a different software to write the E57 file from whatever the original hardware vendor scan data files are. Simply trying to open the file exported from Recap in a different program to then export it again in an effort to access pictures that aren't there is not going to be a successful endeavor.
PM me here or get in touch with me on LinkedIn, I've been wanting to chat with folks that have Unity experience anyways.

Re: Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?
Yes, i'm using a library to read e57 files and in a "regular" e57 file there is panorama 2D image included,
but not in those e57 files from Recap.
And after some research, apparently have to generate panoramic image from point cloud manually,
but of course that will be lower quality (since you'll get black areas where points didn't return..)
and thanks! (added on linkedin)
*adding here some reference links for future:
