Re: What is your job title?
Titles help others understand what you are offering, but often limit the depth of experience and knowledge you bring to the table. I've been providing scan data to AEC offices since 2012, but make it quite clear of my architectural training (M.Arch) and experience, knowledge of BIM, and the savings that 3D imaging will bring to their unique projects. Roughly 60-70% of AEC projects in the USA involve existing structures (not to mention their sites) to some extent, so improved imaging simply makes sense throughout the life of a project. 'Reality capture' is here today, and will continue to integrate into AEC workflows, but it is still evolving as a profession. Imagine modern medicine without radiology (x-rays, MR and CT scans). Architects are generalist/specialists, so why limit yourself (new job titles) in the early development of 'reality capture' ? I'm a 'service provider' currently, but a designer at heart. Most clients just want the price and day of delivery so they can begin their work. It helps to understand what they need.

Yes sorry that is indeed what it stands for. We generate CAD models from point clouds and drawings, and use them in FEA software.Oatfedgoat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 8:06 am I assume that FEA = Finite Element Analysis? I guess not many laser scan specialists would get involved in this field so probably not know.

I understand the basics of FEA, FEM, CFD, Solid Mechanics, Dynamics, and Mechanical Materials. I've mastered my major of mechanical design and production engineering,
The geometry and materials of a mechanical element is crucial to its functionality: CAD/CAM, Reverse Engineering, Rapid Prototyping (3-D Printing), FEA, FEM, CFD, Solid Mechanics, Dynamics.
The materials, mechanics, structures, dynamics, design, and arts must work in harmony.

Re: What is your job title?
My card reads "Research & Development Engineer"
My coworkers introduce me as "mad scientist"
I'm getting a rep of "answerer of really strange questions" or "go ask him, he'll know"
but the best title of all, is "daddy"

Re: What is your job title?
"3D Laser Scanning Specialist" it was and still is...
"Reality Capture ladila" could also be someone taking pictures, collecting rocks or the like. Sound a bit detached from...well reality.
