Next week, December 18th represents the end of the $100 registration for CES2018. If you did not do it on or before December 18, on the 19th it will increase to $300.

The list of interesting booths is increasing daily. Sensors of many shapes and sizes will be there. More hand scanners will be available next year. I just downloaded 500MB of 8 examples which looked interesting that components will be on display at CES 2018 as 3D visual sensors.

Accenture just posted their 5 tech stories for CES 2018

Story One: Artificial Intelligence

It looks like I will be camped out at LVCC North Hall with my Hawaii CVPR2017 acquired friends from NVIDIA, the automotive Lidar (SSL), and 3D printing to mention a few booth locations.

Story Two: 5G and IoT
Story Three: Blockchain
Story Four: Software Smart Products
Story Five: Connected car market

Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I am not interested in large TVs for CES2018, but the following technology seemed interesting for a visit to see it.

One of the major questions will be if micro-LED technology will be better in the future than the present panel LED for walled visualizations.

Thin laptops are not my interest, but INTEL+AMD might be for some LSF folks...I posted this on Nov 8

dhirota wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2017 3:07 am This may not be the place to do this, but since my picture with Jensen Huang of NVIDIA is the first entry on this thread, I figured that a picture of Raja Koduri, who is not yet my friend, should go with this interesting announcement.
RAJA_KODURI.jpg
So he is now at INTEL

And the net result should be this at CES 2018. Maybe a photo opportunity at the INTEL booth.

I do not know if Santa's elves had anything for the LSF folks or if they have been good enough to deserve another $3000 present probably to be seen under a tree at the CES2018 NVIDIA booth.

I will be at the CES 2018 NVIDIA booth to check it out, but I will be saving my $3000 to rebuild one of my dual Xeon 100TB Windows10 workstations into a 120TB box using a bunch of 12TB Seagate SAS helium drives, Linux plus some interesting large scale geospatial software.

C SPACE at CES 2018 will be one of the major locations for 87% of the Fortune 100 companies focusing on how technology will influence advertising and entertainment.

Because of limited time; other priorities; and probable major media coverage, I will not spend the time there unless some one points out the importance of this area that I might have missed.

Re: CES 2018

One week from today I will be in Las Vegas with the 180K+ people attending CES 2018.

There has been little news about technology that might be at CES 2018. I have posted a few general categories that might be of interest to LSF viewers on this thread, but I have had no responses except from Jason, in my search to figure out what to check out at the thousands of booths. I will be at LVCC North Hall with 3D printing, NVIDIA and a few others that I cannot mention now on Tuesday; with the Chinese gang and Eureka Park on Wednesday in Hall G; Thursday everything else.

One of the very few announcements recently is the LG 88 inch OLED 8K TV, which is supposed to have great blacks and super HDR. Unfortunately, their 77 inch OLED 4K TV is over $20K, so that makes the 88 inch and some recently announced small scanners the same poor investment. We, in the USA, should all check with our accountants in the next month to figure out what is a good deal in 2018 with the new tax code.

I checked out the CES2018 Award listing and found the the BEST INNOVATION AWARDS going to (1) Intel and their Movidius Neural Compute Stick for AI that I purchased at CVPR 2017 and reported briefly on;
viewtopic.php?f=39&t=12054

and (2) AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper 1950X also discussed on LSF
viewtopic.php?f=58&t=12146

I do not plan to stand in line to view the award objects and descriptions, since the lines to view are too long and it is better to see the objects in the booths and talk to the booth people.

This will probably be my last post on this thread since I will be busy checking out various booths and have had no responses to check on anything from LSF members. For those that may not be frequent conference attendees, it may be better to check the major media on CES 2018 to see what might be of interest.
