Scan Plan - Laser scan planner

Post by MarkJLane »

Hi folks,

I gained some pretty great feedback from the community here at LSF with regard to my bespoke target generator, TLS Targets. So I'm back to seek further perspectives for my new tool: Scan Plan, a tool for planning & estimating terrestrial laser scanning. Much like TLS Targets it's a pretty simple app containing the following fearures:
  • Load PDF plan
  • Place low, medium, & high density setups
  • Specify setup times
  • Tally total setups & scan times
  • Export PDF scan plan
Proposed new features:
  • Load image/take photo
  • Load saved Scan Plan
  • Improved UI for mobile
  • Nominate target positions
  • Nominate approx. benchmark positions
  • Multipage PDF support
  • Scale-up & export part plan
Appreciate any feedback/criticism offered :D

Love this, keep up the good work.

Now something that might help us Field360 app users is an Android/iOS version so we can do our target sketches on the tablet in the field! for whatever stupid reason, Leica built in the functionality to geotag things in the scans using the tablet, just not targets, because, reasons?

Hello Mark,

Inside and out side scan layouts are a bit different for me. Having a max target distance to keep track of.
The targets with the scanner I'm using need to be with in 50m of the scanner, So my scan setups scan only be 100m away from each other.
It also helps to have the setups and targets labeled. Having function to track the traverse loops would be nice as well.

Great app! Thanks for sharing.

I'm curious what settings or what targets accommodate 50m ranging! Maybe it's the hardware? On the faro s70 we can get green on 27m (30m at 3x sampling) for our 230mm spheres but generally try to stay under ~22m.

Appreciate the feedback gents. I'll work towards adding these requests...links and labels shouldn't be a problem, but I'll have to write a complex function to calc the target distances based on PDF sheet size & plan scale.

I've deployed an update with the following upgrades:
  • Load image (PNG & JPG)
  • Load saved template txt file
  • Improved mobile UX

The old Leica "6 INCH TURN AND TILT HDS TARGETS" Max range is about 150 feet. (Rescaning until you can see the center) You can see the blue dot at the center of the target in a target scan 100% of the time at 75 feet. If the laser misses the reflective dot at the center of the scan you have to add the target manually.

Quite slow and not ideal, but i got the P40 to detect targets 90m away.
On some jobs you just gotta do it...

Scott,
I used the picture capability on the iPAD pro in conjunction with the Photo Editing system app of the iPAD.
What kind of sketch did you mean? Can't you geotag your targets within the scanner view window- take photos, edit them & draw on with notes if need be & attach the photos as the Geotag (gives you a choice of taking photo or attaching an image from the iPAD library)
