Post by flohrd »

We have released version 1.7 of WebShare Cloud today!
As always, new features are immediately available to all subscribers without any extra cost or paperwork...

New features include:
  • Create orthographic images (see examples below). Ortho photos can be created using color, intensity or color coded distances. This feature is currently in beta testing and we appreciate any feedback!
  • Import data from WebShare Cloud back into SCENE 5.4
  • Support for Freestyle 3D data
  • Link to files in your dropbox or box.com
  • ...
The full list of changes can be found here.

Some example of ortho photos created with WebShare Cloud (click images to enlarge):

In my first 15 minutes of exploring the new features, this seems to be a like a giant improvement. Well done Team Faro! I'll report any findings after test driving the orthophoto feature. First one i did of profile of a series of steps looked great. Thanks.

or color coded distances
Wow like in the 5th image. That's handy! Is the color ramp range adjustable? I know sometimes our project may have extreme high and low elevations and it is often more beneficial to narrow the range to just above and below the ground terrain or a floor.

Also could we add this feature to Scene for use in the project 3D view and orthophoto generation :D

Ok, that was just silly, but seriously this would be a great feature for Scene.

Of course you can define which parts of the project (volume) will be used for an ortho photo. This is similar to the SCENE clipping box. The color ramp will be mapped to the thickness of that volume.

Here are some more screen shots from the process of taking an ortho photo:

Define Volume Part 1: Start in the overview map to define image plane and thickness:
Image

Define Volume Part 2: In the panorama view define the height of the volume:
Image

After this you can set up resolution, color mode, name, description etc. Once you are done with this you can submit your ortho photo order and the order will be placed in a queue service.
Image

The property page of the ortho photo will show a placeholder as long as the photo is in the making. The meta information for the photo is already visible instantly:

Once the photo is complete the property page will show the resulting image:

Check out the result here.

Thank you Daniel.
It looks very promising.

Is there ever going to be a way to include things like bullet trajectories?
Granted, it is going to take some time for US Law Enforcement agencies to embrace the "cloud" but we continue to present the "opportunity" to them at every turn.

David, I would love to discuss that matter - if we could provide trajectories in a useful way, I don't see why we should not consider it in the future. If you have any thoughts to share on how this could be integrated, please do not hesitate to send me an email!

I just wanted to give a quick update on the Orthophoto feature in WebShare Cloud. We released version 1.8 today which added scales and gap filling to the Orthophotos. The gap filling improves visual quality and/or allows you to render Orthophotos at a larger scale without having holes.

This is an example of a 120 pixel per meter resolution Orthophoto:
Image

This is the same example with gap filling enabled:
Image

One note: the amount of points to render depend on the export settings in SCENE. If you enable HD sizes for the scan data resolution, there are more points to render and it is hence possible to render higher resolutions. The example above uses only standard sizes!

The scan is to be found here:

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I'm also happy for any feedback.
