Does anyone know what the import options are for Polyworks?
Can it take scan data i.e. PTS, PTX, etc?
What size mesh can it import and are there any file size restrictions?

Re: Polyworks
It wont import .PTS , Ive only really had any success using .PTX even then you are limited to importing under 2Gb, it doesnt seem to like them much bigger than that. Importing is quite slow as IMAlign only uses one core but you can have multiple copies open to import lots of files at the same time.
Polyworks is a bit cumbersome compared to Reshaper and Geomagic for importing data although I still think I can get better quality mesh from it.
For editing and working with meshes its really good. I regularly work with models over the 25 million poly mark and it handles them fine. Its got some great hole filling tools much easier to use than the other packages I've tried.

Re: Polyworks
Hi Al,
Thanks for your feedback.
Would you suggest I mesh this in 3D Reshaper then take the mesh into Polyworks?

Re: Polyworks
Depends on what you need from the mesh and how it will be used.
Meshing in Reshaper is far quicker and easier than Polyworks although it doesnt produce as nice a surface. ( it can get pretty close with a bit of trial and error ).
We are lucky enough to have both sets of software and I tend to flick between them depending on the project.
If you dont mind me asking what are you meshing and what do you want to use the mesh for?

Re: Polyworks
If you're coming from Cyclone ptx probably is the best option but I haven't had issues with file sizes. I just finished importing two 20 GB ptx files into the same IMSurvey project without any issues. This was on an oldish laptop with only 8 GB of RAM.Alrawli wrote:Ive only really had any success using .PTX even then you are limited to importing under 2Gb, it doesnt seem to like them much bigger than that.
I agree with Alrawli about the mesh editing tools, they are the best I've used. Although it does work I'm not a huge fan of the mesh creation tool (IMMerge), I think there are better options out there, both in terms of efficiency and mesh quality.

Not sure what they're going to use it for but I need to scan and mesh something similar to the above.Alrawli wrote:If you dont mind me asking what are you meshing and what do you want to use the mesh for?

Re: Polyworks
I think with Polyworks you will achieve the best possible result in meshing but it can take plenty of time. Also you can consider Polyworks for non-target scanning workflow
