Rail extraction from Point clouds.

Post by JADominguez »

Hi Friends.
I am looking for a software suitable for extracting a rail, cross sections and parametters (alingment, slope, camber,....) of the via form a point cloud.
I saw some softwares but it seems they are focussed on train rail. I my case I need to extract the parameters of a via of a bridge crane where the rails are separated around 10 metters.
Do you have any experiece in this issue.
Any recomendation.
Thank you in advance.

We've automated rail extraction tools in SCC, see the video below for an example. While it is commonly used in conjunction with trains there is no reason why it should not work with much wider gauges. If you want to send me a sample dataset over I can check how well it works and organise a trial license.

TopoDOT has an excellent semi-automatic rail tool that is very flexible and can certainly be used for this purpose.

Hi JA,

This link contains instructions on downloading the latest version of SCC. If you send me some sample data using a service like https://wetransfer.com/ or FTP to [email protected] I'll check how well it works in SCC and send you some step by step instructions or short video of the steps required,

All the best,

Shane
