Point cloud viewer
I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I currently use Leica P40 and C10 scanners and register the scans in Leica Cyclone. I also have an older version of Geomagic (Studio and Qualify) along with AutoCAD. Our scan projects are pretty diverse but mainly we've been scanning vehicles, metal plate deformations and things like that. I'm looking for a simple way to package and deliver the final point cloud along with any simple modeling, lines, patches, etc. where the customer can view and rotate the data. Due to our constraints I'm not allowed to use web based software, although I may be able to find a way if that's my only option. It doesn't need to be a free viewer, but something inexpensive would be best. Anyone out there using a point cloud viewer that they are happy with?

Re: Point cloud viewer - BloomCE
Suggest checking out Bloom Cloud Engine. BloomCE is a powerful next-generation point cloud editor with edit, collaboration and visualization tools. The developers come from a background in image and point cloud process and have taken a new approach to point cloud management, editing and sharing.
There are two components to Bloom Cloud Engine, desktop point cloud application, and cloud hosted visualization. The desktop application is the core of the product, with point cloud management, editing and analysis functionality, including powerful but easy to use deviation analysis
From the desktop, the user can edit, design, and analyze, and then publish to a Bloom portal. The default Bloom portal, or a customized site, is hosted within a secure Amazon cloud infrastructure. Users can quickly publish 3D Snapshot or their work to the portal for viewing and collaboration. The user can also publish and share the same point cloud data as point cloud objects in a highly compact format.
There are two version of the Bloom application, a full featured data management, edit and analysis version and low cost publish version. Below are links to learn more about Bloom.

Re: Point cloud viewer
Thanks Greg. That's interesting and I'll check into that and compare it to my current software. What I'm looking for now though is a way for people to just view the 3D point cloud and features. I just need them to be able to rotate, zoom in and out, etc. Something like a 3D PDF file. If there's a simple software they need to install that would be ok.

Re: Point cloud viewer
Potree working off a local server is also worth looking at, as it is browser based but in this configuration technically not web based.

Re: Point cloud viewer
You can also use our Data Studio product (www.veesus.com), which runs in a free viewer only mode.
With the free version you can:
If you have a fully paid for license you can also create standalone distributable projects which load with all your other data types on a users computer.
Many Thanks
Mark
With the free version you can:
- Load multiple, unlimted size, point clouds
- Load 3D Cad models
- Add measurements
- Take screen shots
- Make videos
If you have a fully paid for license you can also create standalone distributable projects which load with all your other data types on a users computer.
Many Thanks

You can convert your point cloud to bin files which can be viewed in html (directly on the pc).
With firefox this is directly possible (so you could pack a portable one with the point cloud directly), or one needs to have a server running to show it in Chrome and other browsers.
This is not online, the conversions is done on your PC, and the files are stored local as well (as long as you don't put them onto a server of course).
EDIT: smacl was faster then me...
