Cyclone > ReCap > Revit

Post by Varlth »

Quick question if anyone does the workflow outlined in title?

We have a point cloud of a building that is on a coordinate system in Cyclone. I exported out the entire building as a PTG, then brought it into ReCap. I sliced the building in a gridlike fashion and saved out each slice as a separate ReCap file. Bringing each slice into Revit brings them in around the same area, but not the way it's supposed to. I get a really funky looking building since it's not stacking or rotating properly.

Way back when I was first trying this out I created multiple modelspaces for each floor of a warehouse in Cyclone, then exported to PTG, imported into ReCap, and saved, but everything came on top of each other. My logic this time was that if I did the slicing in ReCap everything would fall in the way it was supposed to in Revit, but it still isn't doing that.

Is there a different file format I should be using besides PTG? I am currently playing with PTX because a coworker says an acquaintance does it that way. I'm not sure if file export type matters or not here. In my head I don't get why, if I bring the entire cloud into ReCap and slice it there, everything doesn't just drop into Revit properly. I am not a Revit guy though so maybe there is something I am missing there? I am simply trying to prepare this file for a Revit user.

Thanks

drop it in navisworks and see where it lands.
There are a few options bringing files into revit, origin to origin, center to center, or by shared coordinates. This option is in a drop down when you are linking your point cloud on the right side of the pop up window. Change it up and see what happens

I knew about origin to origin, a co-worker (no longer here) has reminded me of it multiple times before, but I always find a way to forget about it. Everything is working as intended now.

Cheers.

Food for thought: you could potentially increase productivity by saving significant time on file exports/imports/slicing-and-dicing/etc. by using CloudWorx for Revit as well. Which will read the Cyclone IMP or JetStream point clouds from Leica.

Hi

there was long discussion about this:

Justin

CloudWorx for Revit - so there is no issue with data shift? (as it was discussed - Revit Shared coordinates/Project Base Point? - when you divide Pointcloud into 2 parts and bring to Revit - there is no overlapping with shift?)
