Hello all,
We have done some basic scanning for a company, who are now wanting to import the detail into PDMS, we use mostly Autodesk software and I have no idea how to get scan files into PDMS.
Does it need to be converted, by specialist Aveva software like recap?
Or can it import .fls directly?
or can i convert it into something from FARO Scene, which would allow them to import them?
Please help

Re: Faro .fls into Aveva PDMS
I'm not a PDMS user but I assume it will not read laser data in proprietry formats such as .fls
For our clients we usually build an LFM Server database (LFM is also Aveva) which generates a .lfd format that all other Aveva software works with.
Maybe if you export your entire registration in a generic format (e57 or las(z)) then PDMS will import it but I've never heard of it.
Richard.

You really need to ask your client what is he using to take he clouds into PDMS. It can be either LFM or Cloudworx. If it is LFM then you will need to follow what Richard has mentioned which will most likely mean purchasing a new software package or getting someone else to do it for you. Alternatively they might have LFM importer in which case you just supply them with PTX files for each scan.
There are some more clued up people here that know the route extensively so they may be able to help.
Good luck
Daniel

Re: Faro .fls into Aveva PDMS
AVEVA PDMS accesses laser data using Laser Model Interface http://www.aveva.com/Products_and_Servi ... ogies.aspx. Your client will need a laser model/point cloud in one of the supported system, LFM, Leica, Riegl, Quantapoint and Trimble.
The FLS files can be read directly into LFM Server to generate a laser model from, I believe Leica Cyclone can also read FLS files.
Most engineering companies have very little or no experience of laser scanning, they generally have no idea how the survey is captured and a laser model is generated. As a result the generation of the laser model from the laser scans (FLS files) is generally considered a back office action typically undertaken by a service provider i.e. yourself.
Before you do supply the data, do check that it is in the coordinate space they expect i.e. it is in plant space.
If the client is using AVEVA Everything3D they will be able to access BubbleViews(tm) within the Model environment and laser data within the Draw product.

Re: Faro .fls into Aveva PDMS
Sara,
Welcome to the forum. To access the laser data within PDMS you will need to be using PDMS 11.6SP2 or the PDMS 12 series. This will allow access to the LMI Interface, this allows PDMS to communicate with via the PDMS CADLink to LFM Server and render, clash and interact with the point cloud in PDMS.
