They are supposed to be adding more point cloud capabilities into Solidworks 2019 but I am not sure what they will be. Geomagic and Rapidform both had parametric exchange into Solidworks and it looks like 3D systems is continuing this under the Geomagic label. I am sure it would depend upon what you are trying to get from the point cloud into Solidworks. I have modeled individual stones in Solidworks and assembled them into building elevations using Geomagic Wrap as a measuring tool but have found using the plug in to convert it more time consuming than not using it. The newer version looks promising. If you are looking to convert large pipe runs, etc. I do not know what would work best.
