Hello
I just bought a new workstation to run Faro Scene and 3DS Max for projects. I am trying to render point clouds using the method that I picked up from tutorials- i.e., apply Arnold standard surface shader then a user RGBA map to the base color node. I check "fixed in rendering" and set the dial at 100.
And then adjust the scale of the points as necessary. When I render in Arnold I am not getting anything, or else I am getting a shape with no color. Has anyone here had success with using point clouds in Max 2020?

Are you assigning a Material to the Point cloud? I dont have a lot of experience rendering clouds with Arnold but found this link from autodesk...
6.Open the Material Editor and load an Arnold Standard Surface shader.
7.In the Base Color slot, load a User Data RGBA map. Under Attribute, type in the word colors.
8.Assign this material to the point cloud object and then do test renderings to see the results.

Hope it helps.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yes, that is the process that I was using and it was not working.
I found out that if you include a color correction operation between the RGBA map and the base color slot, suddenly there is color on my renderings.

Here's what I did to get it working in 2019 version:
Also regarding the Level of Detail setting, my understanding here is that the slider bar only affects your viewport, when you check 'fixed in rendering' and set to 100 it overrides the slider bar so that you are rendering all points.
I have limited experince with Poinclouds in Max, however 2019 version just seemed very unstable to me. Maybe 2020 version is better.
