Hi.
Are folk familiar with gltf and its potential for sharing 3d content ?
Any thoughts on how this will impact on sharing data in future ?

Re: GLTF
I suppose that all depends on adoption, which I think at the moment is pretty much zero. I'm not sure about Maya but two of the 3 applications (Modo and Blender) that they show as the source of their "After glTF pipline" don't even support it yet. At this point I think it's fair to say that any benefits are largely theoretical.
Although the intended use case is perhaps a bit different, conceptually it does seem to have quite a lot of overlap with USD, which Pixar just open sourced. It remains to be seen if USD gains traction as well, but at least it's a little more battle tested than glTF and has application support out of the box.

Re: GLTF
Thanks for the link to USD.
I'm interested to see how this develops, particularly for making scanned / 3D content available for editing in online applications like sketchfab for example.
Regards.
Stephen.

Re: GLTF
Jed,
Just like you said, many of the standards available take a while and are dependent on the resources supporting it. GLTF seems to have several, only time will tell.
We are tracking USD with others and the consensus is the 20 years of experience by Pixar and the 3rd party plug-ins are helpful in getting it moving.
