Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
I know 2017 has only just been released but has anyone tried linking in a RCP file with Regions into Revit 2017 yet?
I have and it made Revit very sloooow. I linked in a RCP which has about 7 Regions defined and then went into the point cloud manager and FINALLY, I can now see the regions defined in Recap and turn them on & off individually. That's great news for scan data users in Revit.
However, I then went into 3D View and tried orbiting the scans and it was very slow to respond. Even once I stopped orbiting, the cursor was giving me the "working" symbol for a good 10 sec before I could try performing another task.
I then went into the point cloud manager and turned all the regions off except for 1 and tried orbiting again in 3D. Same slow response even with significantly less points being displayed. The whole RCP is about 375 mil points so it's not a massive file so I'm quite surprised how poorly it's working.
This exact same project I had previously exported the individual regions from Recap as RCS files so I linked in all those RCS files and turned the original RCP file off and only turned on the same RCS region as in the above paragraph and Revit worked fine. I could go orbit, pan etc without any lag or delays.
If anyone else has had a chance to try this I'd be interested in hearing how it went.

hi,
i havent looked yet - as i cant get 2017 Revit to work
this sounds much like the bug that was in ReCap a year or so ago, and it has transpired to Revit now.

Re: Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
Do you guys have any clients actually asking for models in version 2017? I'm still using 2014 because that is what most clients are using. I will install 2015 soon because I have had one enquiry for that. The back compatibility, or rather lack of it with Revit is quite frustrating to say the least...
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Re: Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
we have no live projects in 2017
We are still mainly 2014 but have projects in 2016 too.
2015 i avoid like the plague!

Well of course I would avoid them all if it were not for the fact that architects insist on using such software...

Re: Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
So far I used Recap 2016 and experience the same problem, however in Recap itself and in Inventor and Autocad as well. I therefore believe it is rather a Recap problem then a Revit problem.Orangeduke wrote: If anyone else has had a chance to try this I'd be interested in hearing how it went.

For the time being I solve this problem by creating rcp from each region.
I've brought the issue up to ther reseller of Autodesk a few months ago, but stille waiting on a reply.....

Re: Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
Matt, you are definitely a provocateur . In the meantime.. I haven't had any issues with Recap regions in 2016 AutoCAD. They pull through into AutoCAD and Inventor etc and work as expected. As far as I'm aware, Revit has never had the ability for Recap Regions to pull through, you could only turn the individual scan locations on and off. Hence the workaround of exporting individual regions from Recap as RCS.Matt Young wrote:Well of course I would avoid them all if it were not for the fact that architects insist on using such software...
AutoCAD has a significantly better Point Cloud Manager then Revit which I have always thought is back to front. In my experience, if a building is to be scanned, the data will end up in Revit, not AutoCAD. Scan projects that end up in AutoCAD are generally small or, the Architects are still working in 2D.
In my opinion, Revit should have the "premium" Point Cloud Tools. If the Recap Regions can work in Revit, I think that is a step in the right direction. But Matt, you are probably correct. It may be some time before I have to use 2017 in anger.

Re: Recap Regions in Revit 2017 slows performance
We have to live with this..
AutoDesk is changing ReCap to ReCap 360 with cloud service (and i am still not able upload to A360 something bigger than 5 scans, no success wit meshing)
Revit 2015 was disaster (as AutoDesk people had to admit...)
But hopefully Revit 2017 will be great, but hold on, is it still april 2016?
I have strange feeling that they are testing product on customers
