3ds max question.

Post by theatreworkUK » Tue Jan 09, 2018 10:34 am

Hi. Could anyone assist with the following please !

I have generated a number of meshes from a scan using thinkbox sequoia with uv materials baked in. I need to do this in sections so that I can load the points I need into memory to generate mesh and textures.

I load these sections into max and attach each of the segments to create a single model with multiple sub materials.

I export this model as fbx.

When I load into windows mixed reality viewer it doesn't display any colour. I suspect it just drops the colour because it can't read the multiple materials.

Is there any way to generate a single texture in max rather than multiple sub textures ?

Cheers !

Try render to to texture, so called texture baking. You will find a lot of information about that in the internet.

Have you tried to check the "embed" option when you've exported the FBX ?

Cheers.
I'll give that a go.

I'm not an experienced 3ds user.. But have figured out some functions to enable me to generate some meshes on sketchfab.

This model: https://skfb.ly/6vtXr is vertex colours only, and has been reduced to 1m poly's to enable it to load on mobile phone.
Its a single mesh so is easier to handle.

The new model is a combination of sections with their own material files with uv..so im running into problems again.

Ideally, the models will preview in windows 10 mixed reality viewer with the materials too..and not be restricted by webgl limits. SO in theory a better visualisation.

Just to say thanks, and that embedding media into the FBX enabled the mixed reality viewer on windows to handle the model and display the materials. :D

Here's a small screen capture to show the results. https://youtu.be/zsaI4upNwjc

This means anyone with windows 10 can explore the 3d models i have without any additional software.
